Too far north. Too far east.
Nope, not after a farm animal. Named after Capt. William Dampier, a 17th century English explorer, naturalist. The first person given credit with sailing around the world three times. A fella that introduced avocado and the making of guacamole to Europe. His adventures were an inspiration for Jonathan Swift's book Gulliver's Travels, and his natural history writings inspired Darwin. He is also considered to be a "pirate who loved plants."

I said it in 2021 after my Canada trip, and again this last summer ... there was a Tacoma in my future. I didn't expect to do it this year, but a buddy from California and I have been talking about a Canada and Alaska trip. The adventure is happening this summer and I swore I wouldn't do it in the 4Runner.

2025 Toyota Tacoma, TRD Off-Road, 6MT.
Dirtbox Overland canopy camper. Evolving.
Dirtbox 270 awning.
13 gallon water tank (Front Runner) with pump.
Victory 4x4 Rear Bumper with gas and tire swing out.
C4 Fabrication front bumper for my 9K Warn. Not installed until I get the front springs.
Victory 4x4 sliders.
Zamp Solar 190W solar panel, with room for one more.
Renogy 30A controller, with bluetooth.
100Ah battery in camper.
285/70-17 Falken Wildpeak AT4 Tires on stock rims.
Front Dobinson springs on backorder.
Rear Dobinson springs compensated for the weight of the camper, but no lift. Will be replaced.
Goosegear rear seat delete. Back seat delete houses a 50Ah battery that runs the fridge, and ham radio.
Camper interior is evolving. Can't find what I want.

Fuse block for the interior lighting and outlets on the camper, water pump, input for future backup 8A DC-DC charger, and solar input.

I don't have a picture, but the fridge is mounted on the rear seat delete. I started out with the fridge on a slider, but the silly thing rattled, so I pulled it.

Jon,
I love that you got a new truck and are building it. What fun. Please enjoy it to the fullest, as I know you will.

Thanks Larry. Lots to do before the summer adventure north.

So, what do you want for the camper interior that you can’t find?
Some sort of drawer. The ones I've seen are either too wide, too long, or too low. I did talk with a company that has one that might work, but it's out of stock.

I am happy to build you some drawers that would fit perfect. I have recently dialed in my drawer fabrication skills during my refresh.

Cool truck and cool explorer story. I think you've certainly earned it after all the years of keeping old workhorses alive and living their best lives far longer than most people would have kept going. I'm starting to be a little nervous with my 26 year old LC.

That was actually part of my justification. I've been camping out of the 4Runner for 37 years. I figured it was about time I bought something new. Note that the 4Runner isn't going anyplace. The Tacoma will never be Canyonlands capable (too wide, too tall, too long, too low). I'm building it for a different agenda.

Let's talk. I would love to have some PouponGear.

Great new rig!! And am glad you are keeping your 4Runner too. Keep us informed of your progress on the build.

I love that Pappy's wallet is wide open and hemorrhaging like mad. I wanna get in on this action.

On the drawer thing, FB marketplace has these that you might've seen these already

built in kitchen on this one

Ya, not what I'm looking for. I want a single, not a double.
