media blaster - how strong?

Hey everyone,

Im getting ready to use my newly acuired media blaster from harbor freight and have a question; how strong? do I need to worry about brake lines? or will it just clean them off as well? will rubber pieces/hoses get damaged? Im guessing they would.
I was just planning on blasting the firewall, but may do the frame as well. I already got the frame pretty clean (getting ready for POR) but the media blaster could help there as well.

I could be wrong here but i thought soda blasters were only good for removing paint, not rust and scale like on a frame.

You don't have to worry about doing too much damage!

You're going to need a bigger compressor! I doubt that thing puts out 1/4 of the required 7CFM @ 90psi. You'll be struggling to blow bugs off the paint.

Kinda what I was afraid of, which is why I posted of pic of the compressor. I'm gonna pull it out right now and see what it can do.

I might have better luck throwing the media at the truck!

ran the compressor to a meter and it maxed out at 80psi.

open the media blaster box, looks REALLY cheap. Taking it back tomorrow.

I guess I'll just sand firewall down

Get a gallon of aircraft stripper and some really good rubber gloves.

or you can get a DA Sander with 80 grit sanding discs... You can buy cheap attachments for a drill too... I've been stripping my 40 down to bare metal lately and a combination of aircraft remover chemicals, palm sander with 80 grit, 80 grit sanding discs , and different drill wire wheel attachments have worked best for me and all been needed for different hard to reach areas... I've also found myself needing a bigger compressor lately and i'm getting ready to pull the plug on something industrial grade; just need a bigger garage!

yup yup

im using 80 grit on a palm sander and various wire brush bits on the drill. Its coming along nice.

You are going to need the biggest compressor to keep up with the CFM's. Forget that little thing!
