Gotta ask before I spend my cash on one does anyone have one if so is it worth the cash?

I have a mean green alt in my fj-60. That being said, I just put an TOY starter I got from CDan into my 80 last week. What makes you want a mean green starter?

Why would you want one? If it's for the color, simply paint yours green?:hillbilly:

I just want a beef starter it's not the color that would be a gay reason I have a Bosch now and it's poop

I doubt the you have a Bosch starter, likely a Denso starter rebuilt by Bosch, the Mean Green is a Denso starter rebuilt by Mean Green and painted green.

The stock Denso starter is a great starter, reliable, easy to service, etc. If you operate the rig in arctic conditions, there are higher amp draw starters available for those conditions.

Ok well it's stamped Bosch if mg starters are same what a rip thanks for input guys

Cool, so this is a Denso starter then?
I was going to get a new starter also since I've got it out for the engine rebuild, and saw it was Bosch. The fine print on the tag does say it's a reman, and it actually looks to be good quality.
Where would you look to be sure it's a good OEM core?
Man, I hope nobody's ever hit this one with a hammer... :crybaby:

So what's wrong with mean green starters? So they are miss advertising them (1/3 size, never remanufactured, twice cranking power etc etc??) you say they are in fact just remanufactured and no better than denzo?

IMHO, over priced, with little/no benefit.

So they are miss advertising them (1/3 size,

How, the ones that I have seen are the same reduction drive setup/size as the stock Denso starter? Maybe if compared to old school, bulky, direct drive starters, but the '80 never had that type of starter?

never remanufactured,

So, Denso parts or generic?

twice cranking power etc etc??)

In my experience, they don't turn the motor any faster than stock. The stock starter spins plenty fast, IMHO, no need.

you say they are in fact just remanufactured and no better than denzo?

They look just like Denso units, so we are back to green?:hillbilly:

Their advertising is solid if applied to an old chevy starter. It's relatively common to adapt Denso type starters into them. The '80 already comes with a Denso, so no benefit.

Well the denzo's I've seen are listed at like 1.2w and the greens are 2.0 or 2.2w or no??

Where is best place to look?

Denso unit remaned by Denso, have 3 in stock, cost is $172

It's freezing up on occasion.

When you turn the key to start, it just clicks? If so, search "starter click", tons of threads on the subject. Easy fix, simply replace the solenoid contacts, ~20min job.

No click what so ever, just dead,
