I have the MG Alt and starter and have had no issues at all with either for almost a year. There is a definite difference in the sound when starting, but happy overall.

Different sound? Like louder (stronger) sounding or what?

Cranks much faster than it used to for sure. I would say it sounds kinda like an old dodge 318 cranking, but not as high pitched.

I also have the MG starter installed by a local Landcruiser shop. Not sure why so many people are down on MG.

My story was my Landcruiser starter was going out something like 2 years ago. I repaired it using this website with Toyota parts to basically do a rebuild of the starter. It worked for about 2 months but begin to sound a little off during start then died. I have owned this Landcruiser over 10 years and the first / last time was stuck over 150 miles away during a family trip. Had it towed to a shop in Newport and the owner said that I had snapped the shaft which he said was rare for a TLC. I left it for a week at this shop and he repaired it with a rebuild. Great at first but then the rebuild died within 6 months. I took it to Landcruiser Specialties just outside Portland and I recall being recommended two options if I wanted it done right - Toyota OEM or GM.

I went with GM and have had zero issues. Highly recommend for reliability!

Note - I'm not a master mechanic but have owned our TLC for a long time. :grinpimp:

LOL, I had mine done at the same place.
