@ extreme . I wrote about a Recaro seat not FJ40 seat.
You can drive them with a 3 point belt.
And the Recaro would be saver as the the seat he put in.

What year vintage buckets do you have in mind? FJ40 seats from the mid 70s? Just curious....

There's always the battle of staying pure to an original vehicle vs. more modern safety and convenience. The vintage buckets would still leave the issue of seat belts open. @DailyDrive_FJ45 can always keep the originals, modify mounting points so the process can be reversed so the process can be reversed in the future.

I'm not even modifying mounting points. I'm keeping the original seats and mounting points and fabricating a custom frame for this bench to ride on

And as you said. The point of this swap is the belts.

If that weren't the case I'd just be restoring the original split bench (which I may still do to swap out for car shows and stuff like that)

Yes but then I'd be drilling holes in my hardtop to add belts. I don't want to do that

& to add air in any 45 you can go my way ....
had stored a bikini top for rain in the box behind... not so bad by the way...quick mounting if necessary *
& safty is better if you go my way than without a top and without doors if safty is a point for you.
answered the question about the "my roof" in a post on Aug 26, 2009 in my diary.

By the way your all round visibility isn`t good with your "tent" mounted on your bed when you drive your 45 daily through Portland, Sir .
Would take the Ferrari, Sir.

..back to Recaro the brown one in this screenshot was my second sport seat in the 43 not in brown (as I wrote before) bought it in black.

A pleasure to sit behind the wheel and to steer.
...if i had ever thought about driving the CAN every day I would have nailed a Recaro seat again in... all said. ;)

Take the hint. I have my plan already for my truck. I don't really need the endless back and forth about what you think is better for MY truck than what I plan to do to it.

Also I'd wager my visibility is better than yours with my rear camera.

no endless back and forth, Sir.
I knew you would never chance your mind... but maybe the " endless back and forth" as you call it is interesting 4 other persons on Mud.
Go back to your red work bench
Oh... a rear camera , buy a Tesla or a other new car they have all the goddies you and others need, Sir ;)

Forgotten this, Sir.
This is a discussion forum made to depate and show other ideas not only to put likes on it.
Leave your "45 miles radius" travel the world broadens the horizon... ask Clärenore Stinnes.
and don`t put money you have or not have (generall not special 4 you ...although I earn money from it ... ask Warren;)) in useless things.

Not on my thread. If I want debate of my choices I ask for it. Kindly see yourself out. Thanks.

Nice deck! If you tire of the Suburban bench but want leg room and a way to keep the missus out of the driver's seat, you can delete the OE driver's seat sliders and redrill the four mounting holes in the seat frame to your spec. Deleting the sliders gets you almost 2" lower and redrilling the bolt pattern gets you up to 4" more leg room. I'm 6'4" and no longer crouched over to look through the windscreen. After five years driving this way it feels kinda gangster being so low! Nice to have those three-point belts though!

Let's say for the sake of conversation that I possibly have the opportunity to buy one of 3 different engines to swap into the 45.

3FE -$400 (no trans or TC)
3B+H55f+split case $2500 (actually a whole rusted out 60 series)
2H - $1000 (no trans or TC)

Which would you choose and why?

For either the 3fe or 2h I'd have to figure out what I want to do for trans/tc Leaning 4 speed swap (from cruiser parts) and converting the 3 speed tc.

3fe reportedly has a misfire, not sure cause.

The 3b/H55f would be awesome but may required a bit much in the way of fabrication for my taste, also I'd want to turbo it (and likely the 2h as well)

2H if you don’t have any mountains to deal with. Very strong and will last a long time with lower maintenance costs.

Have had all 3 over the years. 2h swaps in a lot easier than a 3b. Your way ahead if you get a complete rig. I swapped a rusty bj60 drivetrain into a shorty 45 about ten years ago, used everything from the fan back to the transfer case. 3b is better to turbo( they have piston oilers) Across the range, power is about the same ( not much!!) . My 3b turbo Troopy did scoot along well, hills are the enemy. I have a 2h Troopy now, like Michael said above, super bullet proof and very smooth going down the hwy. And they get great mpg!

Are the 2h frame mounts the same as the f/2f?

What transmission do you have behind it?

I think you need the pass 2h engine side mount, don’t recall. It’s a factory 2h, h41, splitcase.
