Just curious if anybody know of a distributor for Koni Raid/HT Raids in the US of A? I've run them on overseas rigs, but the only places I've found to get them are in Europe/Australia. The price is alright, a touch more expensive than Fox, but the shipping is killer. Performance wise, they come across as soft and squishy when you grab your rig and try to rock it...but in action these things rock. Supple & compliant in the rough stuff, tough enough to take it day in/out, yet well behaved on-road. Re-valvable & adjustable dampening with a beefy build, suitable for stock through 2" lift. I have a buddy who drives between Addis & Nairobi occationally...he states that he's tried several shocks and tire combinations and the only one that survives for more than 1 trip is the Koni HT Raids with BFG's. (He didn't try Fox I'm guessing)

went through this with the 80 a few years ago. you can direct order the european koni raid shocks through koni usa. it takes a while and the prices are insane. you can also try koni australia but you will have to go direct. for the 80 at least they developed their own shocks because they did not find the raid series were durable enough for outback washboard. so they adapted twin tube bus shocks.

After dealing with profender and trying to get parts I don't think I'll be a returning customer. Any info on where to buy the Fox would be great.

Contact ORW, offroad warehouse, I believe they are only in CA, I'm not sure about there online presence...I was with the Fox rep at the overland expo and the direct bolt ons are available and they are not coilovers, of course they wouldn't fit anyways...

just heard back from fox. the front seems like a good option, but the rear is pretty poor.

F/R Brand Model open closed travel
FRONT FOX 985-24-066 17.55 11.55 6.00
REAR FOX 985-24-067 22.95 14.35 8.60

here are some comparisons

F/R Brand Model open closed travel
FRONT OME 60000 17.44 11.73 5.71
REAR OME 60002 24.09 14.49 9.61
REAR OME 60071L 26.50 15.24 11.26
REAR OME n101 24.02 14.17 9.84
FRONT OME n100 17.32 11.42 5.91
REAR FOX 985-24-009 26.15 16.05 10.10

the last Fox model seems to be similar the "L" shock, although the closed length is a good deal longer than other options. the bumps would need to be extended considerably.

don't get too hung up on shock length or an inch of travel. the rear looks like a great option for stock or near stock, and it will also likely be fine lifted for expedition style use and some wheeling. you will likely get full coil height on the lift and just lose droop/articulation. not many shocks compress coils. the actual lifted ride height will depend on the vehicle weight, coil stiffness and maybe the shock valving but not the overall shock length unless fully extended by the lift! rb says these shocks are good on his heavy truck, and i believe him.

having run an 80 on a j lift with regular ome nitros for years i can affirm that a lift with shocks that are "an inch too short" can be just fine. it gives the same lift as an l shock for clearance, and is adequate for clearance for the trails i choose to take. i have been to moab on it a few times and never missed that inch of droop. otoh, i believe i have gotten years of better road manners out of the shorter travel shock.

I have seen rb's truck on the trail. He has no issues that I have seen and we have done some pretty good wheeling together. I think that Semlin has nailed it with not getting caught up in the numbers that are likely not attainable in normal situations anyways....

Agreed. The L's haven't changed my life. :meh:

The hype is over hyped. If there ever even was any hype.

rb, do you have dimensions on the shocks you are running?

The Fox 2.0 for the 100 series dimensions are: front 17.55 extended. 11.45 collapsed. 6.1 travel. Rear 22.95 extended.14.35 collapsed. 8.6 travel. They are also aware that their website is showing a coil over front shock which is incorrect. Front and rear are a 2.0 Performance series without remote reservoir. I'm not positive, but I think they will be offering a reservoir option in the not to distant future.

Concerning the rear shocks not being long enough for some. I run Slee heavies and have quite a bit of extra weight. I also wheel as hard as any 100 series should IMO and have been very impressed with the Fox shocks.

I'm dumping my Radflo's when the fox 2.5 Reservoirs are released.
