Hey guys -

I am purchasing a new to me FJ62 from Wichita Kansas this Saturday.

I plan on reupholstering the interior while adding BMW front seats.

I think I am going to do a mix of Alcantara and Leather, or potentially cordura fabrics.

How many square yards of material do I need to purchase? I would also like to do door cards and rear at a later date. If I need to, I will go out there and measure, trying to avoid that if there is an expert around.

Thanks,

A square yard is 9 square feet. A square foot is 144 square inches.

Add in scrap for material pattern repeats. They will center everything and lop the ends off.

Hey Joe - I could’ve figured the math out myself hahaha!

I will be self performing the work.

Wow really love this idea.

Nice choice ... I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I reupholster mine.

I'm about to get my stock seats reupholstered and the shop I'm taking them to suggested nine yards for the seats and top of the door cards.

Perfect thanks - good starting point

A roll of fabric is often much wider than a yard, and when you purchase a yard it is 3 feet of fabric off that roll. I recently purchased OEM reproduction fabric from SMS fabrics, and the fabric roll was about 70" wide. So, a yard was a piece of fabric 36"x70". This can vary though, so just ask the manufacturer how wide the roll is before you purchase.

Sorry, just checked my email records and the roll was 65" wide. And most importantly for your purposes!.....each OEM front seat in my 60 took about 1 yard of fabric.

Thanks - that is perfect. I am planning on maintaining a two color appearance with the material from the sides rolling over to the back. I might go wild and grab some fabric from Pendleton for the headrests. I think the right pattern would look really unique yet traditional.

I pick up my BMW seats next Wednesday from a seller in Denver.

Awesome. As a native New Mexican now living in Portland, I can respect the Pendleton choice. We had some window benches upholstered in Pendleton fabric for our house and it turned out great. Ebay is a great source for Pentleton fabric remnants. It also reminds me of my boy Creeper!

Good point about the width of a roll of material . I just received mine and it s 54 inches wide, I believe.
Scored a great deal, cheaper than my quote from shop, so I HAD to buy more than i wanted. Bit it was still cheaper. But hey, the rest of its mine, so who knows how I'll end up using it. I might recover my console or make a fancy tool box for the back
