Bought it couple days ago too. Planning on dropping off them off and having them machine a flat .... or .... if they cant I will "machine" them myself with an angle grinder.

I just ordered this kit.

Everyone still happy with theirs?
It's awesome!
My undergrad is that I wish I would have been patient and got the Dom steel powder coated.

I take the family snowboarding and just a few trips they have rusted up a treat,

I dont want to touch up every time I get an alignment

Sent out few inquiries for powder coating in Sacramento. Lmk if anyone knows any cheap powder coating places
Just use rustoleum gloss black and touch up after alignment., its what I do....powder coating way to expensive, you are overthinking this..

1. You will never be sitting on your deck enjoying the sunset looking at your beautiful tie rod.

2. the alignment shops are going to be armed with pipe wrenches. And they are going to use it on your links just like they did to every other solid axle truck they aligned that day.

But definitely just do whatever makes you happy bc that’s what projects are all about.

Anyone have one of these kits handy... not installed... wanted to confirm the Left vs Right hand side rod end (for the tie rod)

Edit: I really want to confirm which tie rod end should be setting in the driver side tie rod end hole.

That just depends how the kit is put in. The left hand thread part has a groove cut in on that side. The left hand thread can be on either side of the steering-to-steering arm.

i dont get it, why bother powder coating it since the minute you take it out on the dirt it will be scratched up and will need to be touched up by rattle can....My steering alignment is most certainly off by a few degree and will need to be adjusted with a pipe wrench...unless you plan on taking it off for powder coat more than a few times a yr.

Idk why do you shower and put clean clothes on (im assuming here) if you gonna get dirty and possible scratched up anyway

is that even a valid comparison? lol. U said u dont want to scratch up your shinny link from alignment, what about everytime after you wheel? dont you have to adjust and possibly need to touch up on the paint? Unless you have a mall crawler, then why are you upgrading to HD drag link? lol makes zero sense.

I can tell this greatly bothers you, i wasn’t going to powder coat it if i couldn’t get the notches machined in time. Which i didn’t, so it ended up being spray painted.

You can sleep well now, the powder coated mall crawlers won’t get you now!

Had the kit for few months now, the kit’s great, no complaints except that on one side the hole was drilled slightly off-center.

it doesnt bother me as much as ppl are using the truck for mall crawling. Dont get me wrong, i am OCD with my stuff, but the 80 is a work horse and i am OCD with my cars too. The truck just get used and it will never be perfect and that is not the point of owning one. I will look into the Marlin kit after the Rubicon and see how the stock drag links.

UPDATE: I also ordered this (a year ago) from Marlin and had mine powder coated. Local place charged $75 (I am sure I got ripped off but supporting small businesses) came out well (has some sand in the powder coating but oh well)

Will post up how they hold up.

Question: there is a side with a ring around it, is that for the driver side?

Oh this is great! Mine came non powder coated and I regret installing them, hindsight being 20/20, I should have taken the time to get them powder coated. Clean it up with a slight rust patina. I ended up rubbing some spilled GL5 diff fluid on them and that seemed to put them in a pretty good state.

I'm tempted to order another kit just so that their powder coated :hillbilly:

While it may get nicked on a trail, it’s a mall cruiser for now so I’ll enjoy the shiny finish.

I have a sway bar from Whiteline that is also powder coated and I R&R’d my axles when they were off the truck so the whole thing looks rather clean now . Will post a pic when the rain stops
