Question to those all knowing of crawlboxs, Xcases, etc. What prevents being able to adapt a 60 box to an 80 (or an atlas/Orion for that matter)?

I believe that there is a difference in the tailshaft of the trans but I'm not sure. Personally, I think lt1fire has the right mindset with swapping everything over.

Just an update:
I tore into it today and sure enough the input gear was broken just like the last time. Also I found a bad bearing near it. Fell apart in my hand. Outer cage was destroyed. The oil pump drive shaft was broken as well. I think I am breaking it. Because last time it was broken as well. I think when I install the ext housing I break the little drive shaft. So I've been running it with a broken oil pump drive shaft. Would that cause problems? I think it would.

I did hear back from Marks about a replacement gear. They said the new gear is now a one piece gear. New gear cost $641.36aud plus $145aud freight. So I will be ordering that along with a new bearing.

IMHO marks should just send you that gear. Maybe you pay shipping but not buy a new gear that was a faulty design in the first place.

well a solid gear piece is definitely the best manufacturing practice but it is also the most costly when initially designing an assembly.

I'd send another email reminding them that this is not the initial failure and would greatly appreciate some consideration to your situation.
Yeah I told them that in the email. They gave me a discount on it.

I'd ask them for more...they have quite a large number of potential customers that they have not tapped into and keep turning off b/c of things like this. If they would have a presence on here and have a "crawler thread" and tend to all current and future customers they would sell a handful of these. Myself being one. Forward them the link to this thread.

Forwarded.

Is that just for 1FZ drive-trains? Do the 91-92 models with a 3FE have any potential for a 60 series t-case swap? I have been reading some of the a343 to a340 tailhousing threads and I am trying to do more research on this, but I am still learning about what is what as far as the drive trains and what is behind my 3FE.

What did that a343 come out of, and what (if different) is it going back into?

So if that is the case, then an adapter plate and a crawl box should go on too?

Pics. As you can see again not a good design. You are asking an awful lot of those welds to withstand 275ft of torque at the back end of the transmission. Not a good scenario.

You need a hotter weld. It doesn't seem to have any penetration to it. I would go to a shop that ihas a good welder on staff. I wonder if a tig weld would give you the penetration or strength without distorting the gear?

I did have it rewelded by a pro welder. But it is tricky. You don't want to get it too hot or it will distort the gear. He was able to make it as strong as the original. But if you look closely at the weld it is breaking in the center of the weld not at the edge. So there is plenty of penetration.
