Here's a link of my Cruiser with a 6 cylinder we put in. 3 years of serious abuse and still running strong. This was last weekend on 7 mile in Colorado. This engine has a HP Cam, 120lb valve springs, Milled head, DUI distributer, and TBI from a Chevy 4.3.

What muffler? I have a 2pc header on my Man a Fre motor and I need to redo the exhaust.

MAF 2F

I've bought one of these high performance engines before and it sucked!! I had them put it in my '87 FJ60. After I picked it up from there shop I tried to drive it back to Sacramento, it made no power on the Grapevine (long steep highway for those of you that don't live in California). I got passed by everybody. Then I stopped to make a head-call a/ the engine overheated a/ blew a head gasket. I had to get a hotel room a/ then waste the whole next day waiting on them trailer it back to their shop. :bang: After there so called repair, I tried to bring it home a second time. Again no power on the Grapevine, a/ it failed again. I finally said F@#K IT! a/ put a 2004 5.3 L Vortec. I haven't had a single problem with it sense. I lost money a/ time on the deal. Rebuild your motor yourself or do the V8 conversion. I love my Vortec, My FJ60 accelerates like a fighter jet now, the power is awesome.:steer: They have other products that I would indorse but not their 2F engine.

Major Thread Resurrection Here...you're welcome :)
Anyone have a clue as to how much "hi-performance" these man a fre's gave in terms of HP and Torque compared to stock?
It appears they are out of business.
My 87 FJ60 2F was rebuilt by Man A Fre with previous owner. All the receipts, but nothing indicating output.
Many thanks!

I remember oogling over their Hi-Po 2Fs, but I also seem to remember that they never published performance specs and that was always a sore spot for most potential buyers. FWIW, if I were to rebuild my '40's motor again, I'd do something entirely different...

They weren't built by MAF, they were built by Martin Davidson Automotive in Reseda, CA. Martin has since sold the business to one of the young guys who worked for him. They still do excellent work and build 2Fs. They just upped the compression, added an RV cam and balanced the motors but never dyno'd them, far as I know. I had them build a 2F for me with standard compression pistons and standard cam. Runs great.

If someone were to need a rebuilt 2f for a 1984 FJ, where would you go?
Try posting in the Texas clubhouses forums. You'll get local recommendations rather than all over the US.

Need a little more info:

Are you willing to ship the motor?

You want yours rebuilt?

Buy one outright?

Budget ?

Stock rebuild or hi-po?

I will know more about mine in a week or two. Trying to determine where I’m losing fluid and if it can be fixed. It runs great, except I have to add fluid every 3 or 4 days because it runs very hot. If it’s the Block then I’m gonna go for a Hi-pro because I want to travel and try and compete with highway speeds, 70-75. I have the Holley Stryker and DUI distributor which gets me to the 70 mph.
I’m willing to pay or do what I need to, to get this on the road ASAP. I’m not sure I want to wait months to enjoy a rebuild, prefer one already built, I think. The Man A Fre seemed appealing but the horror stories I read in this thread scare me a bit.

Thanks for your response!

Yes, I'd wait to see if it's a head gasket. But if you need an engine, I'd ask in the local LC chapters if you're in a hurry.

Get a solid diagnosis of yours first.

I don't think anyone, including Man-a-fre, has one sitting on a shelf.

I'm pretty sure I saw recently in either a mud post or IG post that Georg at Valley Hybrids had rebuilt 2F's available. @orangefj45 ?

Georg, are they stock rebuilds? Or do you have some higher performance spec options?

Stock rebuilds only.
If you want high performance, then Mosley Motors is the only way to go.
