Hi Guys I am new to the scene and trying to figure out which route to go with.

What is the primary difference between 1996 LX450 vs 1996 Cruiser?

Which one is a better choice for a newbie :o

They are practically the same. Use the search function, there is numerous threads on detailing the small differences. The 80's FAQ here also provides almost all the basic info.

Welcome to 'mud :flipoff2: <- official salute :D

EDIT: Generally speaking the better maintained one will be the better choice.

Best condition at the best price, regardless which badge, IMHO.

I love when people ask "Is that a real lexus?".

X3, everyone knows a Lexus is far superior to a Toyota, Plus then you can join the pink panties trail team!:hillbilly:

Like most have said, they are about the same, find one in the best condition, equipped to fit your needs, regardless of brand.

x2....that being said, its pretty cool to pass other vehicles on trails and hear "that's a lexus!" The looks are sometimes priceless

one thing MAINTAINENCE . Get the one better maintained. I.E engine, suspension parts, hoses look for all things to have been updated LOCKERS!!!! if your goin wheelin you want 'em. Low mileage is not as important as routine preventative maitanence IMHO. Look and see if you see Toyota parts . Look for the 'ol toyota oil filter. But hey any cruiser is better than a minivan!!!!!

Thanks for all the advise. I appreciate it. I went with the LX450. The cruiser looked nice but as a few mentioned the 450 drove softer and looked a bit more nice.

Thanks once again every one

Lowest miles, best records, best price based on these two conditions. MIke

You can buy all your maintenance parts from Toyota and through several vendors on here with a Mud discount like cruiserdan and trdparts4u

Thanks for all the help every one. I picked up the LX450. I have another question? Which route should I choose. a V8 motor or super charge the stock 6 cyclinder? My Budget is around $3200

Neither, add some armor and get it dirty. And you better post up some pics real quick.

Just do both, then you can go really, really fast!:hillbilly:

stock engine is not fast, but it is very very good. get to know it before you do a swap. I have been very happy with the stock engine driving between Boulder and Frisco in Colorado for the last year.

and spend that money on suspension and armor

Unless you DIY, plan on $10k+ for a V8 conversion. Just a wild guess, but probably conservative.

Supercharger is a little over $3k, but you probably ought to make sure your cooling system and head gasket are up to it, which will add several hundred (DIY) to several thousand (at a shop).
