LX450 Ignition Issue (1 Viewer)

Hello Again! Here's my progress (Max 20 minutes). BTW: my Husky 3-position ratchet screw driver came in handy. It's now a matter of waiting for the new ignition switch to arrive.

As long as you are that far into the dash, as @BILT4ME suggested, this is a good time to remove the RS3000 factory alarm if you have it. You are over halfway into where you need to access and removing it gets rid of several potential points of failure that can keep the vehicle from starting.

I'll bet if you're not getting a click but sometimes it starts if you hold it, it's the starter that needs a rebuild kit or get a reman Denso from rockauto.

Thanks! Yeah...I'm there for sure. I just swapped out the Ignition Switch....and still no clicking. Regarding BILT4ME's point about the starter;

I also have a starter from O'Reillys. It has lasted two years And is doing the same thing on mine occasionally.

Can you get under the truck, smack the starter with a hammer or the handle of a break over bar and it start right up?

Mines doing that and the starter is less than two years old.

Sure....I can do that. It's just so weird that it doesn't want to produce any clicking noise or show a draw of energy at the battery gauge.

If it works to do that, it's definitely starter and nothing else.

Gotcha! I'll have to recheck to see if current from the Ignition Switch is getting to the starter. The starter is definitely getting power from the battery....but the Ignition Switch is not completing the electrical circuit to engage the starter. I'll update as I progress.... Thank you!

So I am still thinking have you removed that alarm system, I have done several diesel swaps and every time we had a starting issue we pulled that RS3000 out and boom our problems solved, it is the alarm not letting the power go to the starter ................................................................

Before I install any starter (or alternator), new, used, or rebuilt, I take it to an auto parts store and have them put it in their machine for checking how the part functions. I'll usually ask them to run the test a couple times in a row. FWIW.

On my 97, sometimes the shifter lockout switch (must be in park) doesn't engage and I have to give the shifter a bit of a whack up towards park with my hand. Then it starts just fine. Someday I'm sure the lockout switch will fail entirely but until then I just hit it. You might try that.

Happy New Year Everyone! Well, I found the culprit that was keeping my rig from starting. It was the Theft Control Relay, which caused an electrical short in the wiring. I spliced the wire and by-passed the OEM factory theft control module. Whew!!!!!! Thanks to all for your awesome feedback..

Actually, it's the one under the dash...behind the fuse panel. My LX450 fires up real nice again. I love that machine. Thanks!
