i very very much doubt it.

Springs can unload like you describe normally off a curb etc. If you hear anything like this try to repeat it, or better yet, have another repeat it while you are outside the car watching and listening.
I will try and find someone to do that. Thanks.

something that happened today which has happened a couple of times but I had forgotten about. Backing out of a driveway turned Max to the right (with a slight drop off to the street) there was a pretty loud clang from what seemed like the front right tire/wheel well area. Not sure if that could be the steering/suspension?

The loud clangs can be normal when at full steering lock as the 200-series has metal steering stops cast into the suspension upright that meets the LCA. Or it could be a CV that's potentially related to your problem.

Do you feel the vibration through the steering or just the chassis?

thanks. I had never heard that. I haven't felt the steering wheel do any shaking ... pretty much just the chassis.

Could it be the center diff lock? I know when I have locked it then unlocked it the symptoms were similar to what you are describing.
Thanks. I can try and exercise that again. I have done it a few times and it's pretty smooth ... just one small clunk and except for that whine when you're driving it drives pretty smoothly.

If it can't be felt through the steering, that could possibly help rule out some of the things in the front axle and suspension, including the CV. The vibration doesn't sound normal so I do agree something is going on. Any additional hints can help narrow down and identify the issue.

Try to see if it the vibration is speed related. When it happens, does the vibration frequency change with vehicle speed or engine speed?

I think it is lug nuts. Don't just ensure they are tight. Remove wheels, clean well, make sure it centered and cross hatch tighten in at least three stages.

Thanks I'll check that out today and let you know.

You mentioned crappy tires. You can still have well balanced tires and get a rough ride through a chop, worn spots, etc.

That happened to me once, bought new quality tires and the problem disappeared. Something to look at before you tear the suspension apart.

Thanks I'll check that out today and let you know.
I checked them... after I found out I have anti-theft lugs which caused me to have to go to the dealer to buy a key. I didn't want to do the 'ram a socket on to it' process and destroy them.

In any event they seemed fine so I'm taking it in Monday to do a Test Drive with Service to see what's what.

Thanks very much for your help.

You wind up with a positive ID on the source of the problem?

2013 LX currently with forgiving passenger all seasons on it. New to me.

I've been noticing a kind of slight jittery ride in all three suspension modes and on smooth asphalt roads. It never seems to really be a smooth ride.

Comfort is a more soft jitter while Sport is a slightly sharper jitter. It has also vibrated pretty badly a couple of times but both times it went away on its own. Lexus did a full CPO type inspection and didn't find anything wrong as it wasn't doing the significant vibration at the time of the inspection and I don't think they do much of a road test.

So the question is do most of you guys feel that the ride is always moving a bit on these or is this a potential issue??

Thanks!

Have you already checked to see if your tires are over-inflated? Many shops and folks tend to put waaay high pressures…and it can lead directly to jitters.

What Specific model tire are you running? When you get specifics, ping @gaijin and he’ll make sure you’re on proper PSI…which often disagrees with the markings on the door.

Give the entire tire number sent for best advice.
@gaijin is our PSI Ninja and he knows his stuff! :poof:

Not really.

After having 2 Lexus dealers tell me there was nothing wrong with it I brought it to a local, highly regarded 4x4 shop and they found that the drive shaft was almost dry and needed to be lubed. That seemed to help quite a bit.

I also just swapped out the crappy Iron Man dealer tires this week for Toyo A/T E III's and so far I love 'em and that seems to have further mitigated the issue although I'm still getting it intermittently. Not sure I'll ever identify the ultimate cause or eliminate it entirely.

Lexus did check the alignment with the old tires and said it was out a really small amount and recommended an alignment after I get the new tires so that's next which I was planning on anyway. Can any shop do the alignment competently?

There's a more thorough response to GOLIGHTLY on the issue generally that I posted today.

To your question I did check that a while ago with the old Iron Man tires and found they were over and I adjusted them to the spec. I also noted which displayed inflation value related to what tire and printed that out so that I could better diagnose under/over by tire in the future. I got a ViAir tire inflator as well so I'm ready to air down and up out there somewhere.

Thanks very much or following up with me! You guys are great.

Forgot to thank you for following up! I very much appreciate the help!

I'm sorry if I missed it somewhere, but what size are your new Toyo tires and what Cold Inflation Pressure have you set them to?

TIA

They're 285/55 20 and are E rated. They're inflated to between 34 and 35.

FYI:

The Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure (RCTIP) for those LT285/55R20 122/119T Load Range E tires on your LX570 is 43psi Front/Rear.

As you are dangerously underinflated at 34-35psi, I strongly urge you to increase your tire pressures to the recommended 43psi.

This may also help with some of your drivability issues.

just a random thought, are you driving on the same roads everyday? i thought i was having similar issued but it turned out to be crappy roads. drove somewhere new and it was all okay.

Thanks for that info. Will increase the pressure today.
