i believe the lug nuts i have are factory from toyota. the one with the special lock might be as well. since i bought the car, i didn't get a "key" for it and i have been having a hard time trying to get the wheel off. i actually got one of the lock off so i took that one to toyota to match it. they couldn't match it with their "key" box.

i've been to autozone, pepboys, etc etc and no one had anything or had any idea to help in taking the lug nut off!!!

any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Auto parts stores aren't much help here. You need to take it to a tire store. Les Schwab, Big-O, Discount...

We get these threads every once in a while; you'll likely get plenty of folks' $.02

I'll start: One simple, proven method is to hammer an appropriately sized socket onto the lug nut.

x3 on weld a nut.

X2..I broke a wheel lock on my WRX after they were over torqued by the tire shop.

I did exactly what CJF said after researching solutions. Bought a 12 point socket slightly smaller than the wheel lock and pounded it on with a sledge hammer (be careful not to hit your weel). After the socket is secure remove with a socket wrench. Worked like a charm once I got the socket on...

Good luck!

hammer time

3/4 inch deep socket map gas torch and a hammer:bang:

Once you get the locked nuts off, taken them out into your backyard and throw them as far as you can. You wont have this problem again. of course make sure you have already procured 4 regular lug nuts to replace them with... worked for me anyways...

If you take it to big-o they can get it off for you. They basically use an impact socket with gritty, sandpaper-like material on the inside and spin it over the lock, heating it up so much that it just comes off the threads on its own

Grab the nut with your teeth, and then have someone drive the vehicle in reverse while the rear is up on jackstands. the wheel rotation will spin that lug right off!

So brutal...

Step 1. Call Cruiserdan.
Step 2. Buy 4 lug nuts appropriate to the year/wheels on your vehicle.
Step 3. Go to a tire store (Jensen, Big O, whatever)
Step 4. Pay them $20 to rotate your wheels and hand them the lug nuts and request that they throw the @$%^!$@# wheel locks in the dumpster with the old exhaust and roached rims.

Just my $.02

Tire store like Discount will take care of you. I stripped my lock out so I couldn't get it off. :bang:

Discount was really nice. Didn't even charge me....

Hammer and chisle. If you're carefull, you won't damage anything except the lug nut. It should take less than 5 minuits.

I used an air chisel, just "hooked" the corner of the chisel into one of the grooves of the lock pattern and spun it right off.. sort of how you use a chisel to take off a hub nut but on a smaller scale.

Any suggestions I gave at this point would be redundant. I just had to laugh at Doc's solution.

I hammered an impact socket on and then used the impact gun to get them off.

My 81 has a wheel lock that uses the ignition key. Not so on domestic vehicles? Used a hammer and cold chisel on my old jeep- bu then that's how it was done on one of those...

Yes, pls take a photo of the locking lugnut. I may have a key you can borrow.
