i went to discount tire and it might just have been one of the manager/worker but he was as helpful as the pepboys guys. "man i don't know, all those locks are different and we don't have anything sorry."

i guess welding a nut might be my option but i'll find a way!

Got a big pair of vice grips? Clamp 'em on with the inner round part of the toothed jaw an use a breaker bar on the handle of the grips... if you have the others loose first, it should come off.

You've been given two simple, tried and true solutions. If you have easy access to a welder, go that route. If not, hammer some cheap twelve points sockets on. Why make a big deal out of it? :meh:

(Don't mean that as bad as it sounds, but c'mon: Get those suckers off a there! :))

oh i forgot to ask about the socket idea... if you pound on it, isn't going to ruin the Stud??? i had several wheel studs break off/stripped and everything else so that's why i kind of shyed from that idea. welder, i dont know of one and i can't drive my car! i'lll get it off though!!

ditto on the 3/4 inch socket

I had to do this last night to change a flat. Tapped it over the security nut with a sledge then used the breaker bar to wiggle the socket off the security nut, once it was loose. Pepboys wanted to charge me 45 per bolt:eek:

It's not going to damage the wheel stud as the socket is only grabbing the lock which will be premanently stuck inside the socket once it is pounded on. Works like a charm. Do it....Do it (Ben Stiller voice)...

hahahah i love it!!

i did it!! it actually worked... it was a 21mm socket (12 point) and it messed up the socket. i tried to take the two other rear ones off but it didn't "grab" it anymore... so that socket is gone :(
thanks for the advice guys! now i gotta take the other two off...

This may be close to beating a dead horse, but here goes.
When this problem came up I was told that NAPA makes "swirl
socket" sets just for this problem. With the swirl socket in mind, I
used the 12 point socket technique. Don't hammer it on too much, and its easier to get the socket off the nut.
