I have a 1990 JDM Hilux with stock limited slip rear axle. I just refilled the axle with Valvoline 75w90 GL5 synthetic gear oil with an "ideal for limited slip" label plastered on the bottle.

Now the rear end makes grinding noises when turning. In a straight line it's smooth.

Ideas? Does this diff need an extra additive?

you probably need to add an LSD friction modifier additive
"ideal for limited slip" doesn't mean anything if it doesn't say specifically what type of LSD it's for

you probably have a clutch type LSD and not torsen, so you DO need an additive

if all else fails, buy the toyota LSD oil

friction modifier

Yes the man is right, you still need to add at least 5 oz. of friction modifier and you need to get the diff.warmed up and perform several figure 8 turns in an open parking lot forward and backwards this will insure the modifier getting in between the clutch pack to avoid the chattering on turns goodluck.
