You can use the stock shifter with a trailblazer cable. Personally I would just go with a lokar shifter. You can use a dakota digital gear indicator to light up the stock gauge cluster position lights. All of that is in the v8 swap thread.
lol I’ve gone through it but it’s like digging in a sandbox. Thanks for the info!

Aaaasnd that's why it's a sticky if you have questions that's where to ask or look for answers for questions you have.

Hey guys! I’ve been trying to find the answer and it’s kind of all over the place. I’m ordering my harness and computer from SpearTech and using the Toyota stock transfer case. Since I’m doing a 4x4 4L80 swap, he is asking me how I need to have my harness set up for the VSS or Speedo. GM usually goes off the trans on the 2wd options I guess. He was asking about pulses so maybe I’m getting the 2 confused the tech and Speedo. When I pulled my t case out over the weekend I removed a sensor with some sort of gear on it, I’m assuming this is what he is asking if we can hook the harness into? Can I have them elongate the harness and plug into the one on the T case or is there something I need to plug into on the 4L80 and render the Speedo cable on the t case obsolete? He is asking me if it is a 2 wire sensor and if it will hook into the GM harness for the computer, needed so it will shift. I’m not at home currently and won’t be for a couple days so I’m trying to get help asap. @cruisermatt @tmxmotorsports
@TLC94LS
@NeverFinis
Thanks

You need to have a reluctor put into the back half of the transmission and add the rear speed sensor to it the transfer case is for the speedometer on the 80 I've used the transfer case speedometer output to work for vss on a manual transmission swap had to work with the tuner and make up my own flux capacitor to make it Al work because of the difference in wave signals not needed in your scenario with the 4l80e some already have both vss sensors but most don't. I did a work around also on a fj60 with 4l80e without the rear vss in it.

Ok. Just to be clear.

I’m hoping my trans builder put a reluctor in the 4x4 4L80 so Tach will work…?

The sensor with the wheel on it from the T case is for the speedometer and has nothing to do with what my harness builder is asking?

1) Your Speedometer needs the Toyota T-Case VSS. Not related to the GM harness.

2) Your Tach needs a 12V pulse for RPM from your GM ECM. Your GM harness should have a tach output for Engine RPM. It might be 5V, which you then have to do the resistor trick. The GM ECM might be able to change the number of pulses/rev to match what the Toyota is expecting (from 4 to 3 pulses/rev).

I am not knowledgeable about this, like @tmxmotorsports, but If your GM ECM needs a VSS, then you will need to install a VSS (and reluctor wheel) on your 4L80e.

Yep

Install a second reluctor ring or just one on the 4x4 4l80? I saw someone mentioning 2 in the v8 swap thread

Thanks guys
Gm ecm needs input vss into the transmission that sensor is already in place on the 4x4 transmission as seen in the photo that @NeverFinis posted the second would be in the gm transfer case but your not using that case the 4l80e has a second spot for the sensor at the rear of the transmission can also see that in the photo that's what you need if it's not there a reluctor ring will need to be installed along with the sensor for the rear vss and also the easiest way to do it without getting more technical.

Working on getting a photo of the transmission is have sitting in the floor at home. Can’t get ahold of my trans guy. Will post when I have it. Thank you!

Here are photos of my trans that I had sent to me.
Looks like I don’t have sensor installed, looks like a plug. But I don’t know if the if the reluctor ring is installed in the rear

So to anyone else wanting to run the 4l80e you will need to either source one with the rear vss reluctor ring or have a transmission shop or you yourself will have to do the install of it. There is a work around but this is way less technical less wiring less thinking less stuff to go wrong not sure on less money but most will go with less thinking lol
