I have a 60 with 33's and the factory 370 rear end which is way to tall for off road and I rarely drive it on the highway. I would rather take back roads at 50 mph than the highway at 70 mph. I will trailer anywhere over 50 miles away but still like to drive around town. MPG is not a worry of mine. I would love some feed back on weather to go 411 456 or even 488. I dont want to go to low because I only hit the serious 3+ trails 3 or 4 times a year (Razor back ramble, Colorado trip every summer and maybe one other LC event.) I am wondering if 4:11 will still be to tall or if I go to 4:88 I'll regret it

at my altitude and 35's i've got 4.88's in my 84/60

before i was runnin 33's and 4.11's it was ok,

my tired 2f needs alittle work.

i'd go 4.56's with the 33's maybe 4.88's for the low down....:D

I play every summer around tin-cup and cant take off in high if I'm facing uphill so I know the lower would be better but can you still go on the pavement at a decent speed with the 488. That might translate to 456 on my 33's. I also added the 1000#'s of your sliders and that will slow me down

4.56s would put you slightly lower than stock. This is assuming t-case final is 1:1 and tranny final in 4th is 1:1, please correct me on those and I'll adjust.

46.65mph at 2k rpms w/ 29's and 3.70s

53.08mph at 2k rpms w/ 33's and 3.70s

43.07mph at 2k rpms w/ 33's and 4.56s

40.25mph at 2k rpms w/ 33's and 4.88s

I am running 4:56s and it seems to be ok running on the road but I also have a v-8 so power is not an issue. For the trail I felt as if I could get a little lower so I went with a toy box to have the best of both worlds...

Perfect. I am sure 4.11s are wrong for me now. I just need to decide on the last two. I'll play with my truck at diff rpms and see how much room i have left.

WITH 35'S the max rpm i run on the hwy is 3200-3500 and my speedo ;) shows i'm goin 70mph maybe more.
i think with 33's and 4.88's youde be pushin to go 65mph at that rpm

4.88 may be to much for 33's on the hwy

trail rig/trailer queen, i'd do it in a heart beat...

I trailer anywhere over 50 miles, but when were in Colorado we usually run lots of different trails. from outside keystone, up and over the divide, across to crested butte, and back and that take some black top driving with the trailer left at the start. Otherwise I would def put in the lowest possible.

but you might just need the lower gears to climb some of the passes.

my 60 will still slow way down goin up the mountian roads.

"I AM SLOWER TRAFFIC" PLEASE PASS ON THE LEFT....:D

And that's my quandary. Lower for the tough passes or higher of the road and where do I sacrifice.

I'm running 4.88 w/ 33's. It's great around town. For long highway trips, you will hate it. I ran a 3k+ rpms/60 mph (and still get passed) and it feels like my 2F is working hard. For trail use it rules, though.

If you plan to ever go bigger than 33's w/ your 2f, 4.88's are a must IMO.;)

Do you ever wish you were faster or does it just feel so good on trails that you dont mind running down the road at a leisurely pace? If there isnt a noticeable difference in 4.88 and 4.56 then I would rather have a little more top end but if the difference is noticeable then I dont mind being passed.

I've got 33"x 10.5 BFG A/T's on stock rims w/ 4.11 axle gears: on paper I should have stock or SLIGHTLY higher gearing than stock, but in use it's actually SLIGHTLY lower, i.e. underdrive. I would call it "normal drivability", meaning it's fine for me, but I'm not going to go rock crawling or have other "extreme" requirements.

My plan is a spring over and 35-37" tires. I just got the gears out of the way first.

I love the gears for everything except freeway driving. I haven't been able to wheel full on yet, but it is worlds better than 33's and 3.70's on the trail. Sure saves my clutch too.

If you are not in a hurry on the highway, and find a sweetspot rpm to cruise, it's not that bad.

It's ironically the opposite of stock 3.70's w/ 33's.

3.70 = highway great/trail OK
4.88 = highway slow/trail :grinpimp:

I would not reccomend 4.88's on a daily driver w/ 33's. But as a weekend vehicle only, it is great!

I'll give a full report w/ the bigger tires when they're on...;)

I have 456 and 33's 3k at 60 gettin passed ...on the trail they ROCKS ... but I'm pullin them and puttin in 4.10 the 456's are for the buggy :grinpimp:

I drove my HJ-60 33" with 4.56 I thought about 2 years .. was totaly nice .. but Always I think if I'm stay at the same point I would choose 4.88 the same money more reduction ..

In my case I'm no worryed about the milles/galon .. :D
