Did any Right Hand Drive FJ 40s, etc come with the lower dash pad sets? Did all of the U.S. market get the lower pads, or what years were they included on?

Thanks,

When the padded dash pad was added in 67 with the start of the 68 the lower pads came too. 73 model still had them just a opening for a radio. Other markets got padded dash later but those did automatically get the lower pads at the same time.

JohnyC,

I thought I had seen a drawing for the right hand drive lower dash pads when I was researching the retainer clip. However, I just went back through where I found the drawings and you are correct. There are a couple of drawings that show only two short pads which I think I had mistaken for a RHD. The toyotapartscatalog.com is a pretty good reference for drawings.

Found the link again: TOYOTA 55449-60010, RETAINER, SAFETY PAD SET PLATE: Part Info

Went back through that link again. I noticed in Europe BJ4*, HJ47, FJ4* 1980-1986 they show two body styles, one is showing a LHD??????

Either a misprint on the website or someone smarter than I will know if LHD was available in Europe????

I have a LHD 01/79 BJ40 from Germany, a very rare one and I wanted to install left, centre, and right lower pads. There are holes which are blanked out for left and center pads, nothing for right side. I checked, no filler or welds. Any thoughts anyone?

For what its worth, you might not want to drill and alter that dash but use a sturdy adhesive to install the pads, thus preserving the value of the unmolested steel. That way they could be later removed without significant harm.

I want to keep original as possible. Seeing blanked out pieces, took the initiative to buy lower pads. However, tried today to see if at least left and center match with holes, that failed too. I am just curious to know if this BJ40 did ever come with lower dash pads. May be those blanked out holes previously used for something else. Thanks!

Those are a bit different than my Canadian ones mine just have push pins ,and you push them on ,yours looks like a bolt. Should bolt on easy after drilling some holes. Bolt them on.
That's right, these are aftermarket ones. Don't want to drill holes etc, if originally they didn't come, would keep it this way. Toyodiy gives part number for them but doesn't say if it applies to this vehicle or not, just generic I suppose.
