Run a cooler.

Make sure the pulley is lined up. This seems trivial based on most of the installations I've seen, but, for some reason, my bracket did not line my pulley up with the pulley on the crank...especially after properly tensioning the belt. I had to hack together a bunch of spacers to get it to line up properly.

Have you bought the Saginaw parts yet?

gotcha. was yours a V8 swap?....regarding the issues with the pulley...

I have ordered the steering box (4:1), which I will check and make sure is a 4 bolt flange on it...I have the lines, pulley, and pump in hand. bracket arriving from summit tomorrow.

the rest of the kit (everything to mount and make the conversion work) was ordered from cruiser outfitters....hope to see it on Friday/Monday latest.

Yep a cheap tranny cooler will work just fine.

I forgot you had a v8...sorry, my comments were in reference to the 2F.

With regards to the 4.25:1 steering box, if you ordered a typical reman'd Cardone type box, my research/testing concluded that part number had absolutely nothing to do with the ratio of the box that you will receive. I ended up buying 4 different gear boxes, and only one of them was an actual 4.25:1 ratio. I thought part number 6529 was the magic one, but I returned one that was 3.25:1. In other words, good luck...maybe you'll get one on the first try.

i read that crap here on mud.......ha....go figure.....if it's not a "hey yall...look at my new tars" or a rock crawler pic, it get's little to no traction....and the tech stuff is littered with no....that wont work....try searching...pfffft....

yes!

was having fuel issues, I think, after driving for a bit...

truck would basically fall on its face and not run...

2 fuel pumps, a super coil, a couple filters and some different gas.....still was having issues...

I am still thinking that it was/is maybe a vent or vapor lock issue......fuel pressure gauge was reading 3psi at key on after priming and 4-5 fluttering and after driving a bit it was reading a sketchy 1-2psi....

I am pretty sure that the power and grounds are sufficient, and I still had the same issue after re venting the gas tank....(I'd plugged the extra nipples on it after running the main line....and thought that the pressure was extremely high when taking the cap off)

so......I want a mechanical pump now, it was recommended by a couple of friends....that should eliminate the voltage (if any issue there) and also the pressure problem if so associated....AND, I want/need power steering......

one problem.

the engine mount. the current set up was an ox yoke-like piece that bolted to the very front of the engine and used the Toyota factory engine mounts.....

this was a problem, for the mechanical pump and for the power steering pump (as the body of the pump wouldn't fit because of the mount end and the driver's side was an issue for the PS pump BC it was utilizing the bolt holes that the pump needed...im sure there was some way to make it work with spacing and a single long belt, but I didn't want to go that route...

so I bought some advance adapters mounts and cut off the OEM mounts (sorry purist guys....) and welded in a couple scab plates and the mounts....

I should have the fuel pump bolted up and ready tomorrow....the only issue I see now is the modded battery tray.....I will NOT be able to use the OEM tray that I hacked up and made a riser for.....I will get on that and weld something up tomorrow before I get gas all over the place.....

so, hope to have it running by tomorrow evening.....

I ramble....sorry. been a long day.

It sounds like you've tested it thoroughly already and decided to move on, but, FWIW, I had the exact same symptoms with the Pig. It would idle just fine and actually move under it's own power in low gear (also at idle), but the minute you tried to accelerate it would die due to fuel starvation. I tracked it down to a low voltage issue at the external fuel pump.

Things you could easily check/test before reverting to a mechanical pump:

Make sure the fuel pump relay 'input' leg has a solid connection to a 12V source (preferably, directly to the battery).
Make sure the fuel pump relay 'output' leg has a solid connection to the pump and you are seeing steady 12V at the pump.
Make sure the fuel pump has a solid ground to the frame (i.e. connected to a bolt/screw with zero paint under and around it).

I'd rig up new temporary 'input' and 'output' wires at the relay just to test with. That way you'd know for sure you were working with good wires with solidly crimped connectors.

What pump are you using? I've got a brand new 'low pressure' Walbro in my spare parts kit if you want to test with it.

it may be voltage, it am getting good readings, but couple probably stand to re test it. im just tired of "thinking ive fixed it" and it acting up...

i literally drove this thing to the meeting last month and it was fine....58 miles that day.....

the pressure was/is dropping under load...i just dont think the ones i have are keeping up....who knows...that also may be a voltage issue.....

thanks for the help....i have to rig up a new battery tray now.....will advise on status later this evening ......hopefully....

im going bail on work here in a few and get going on it.

@fountainhead .....

mechanical pump is in and the goblin is running......won't know fully until I get it out in the heat and put it through the paces....

I will say I *may* have run across a potential voltage causing problem today upon removal of old stuff.....

when I pulled the positive wire I ran for the electric pump, I noticed that I had tapped the power wire from the fan switch to the fuel pump wire....meaning, I think it was pulling voltage down possibly when the fans were running and the truck was hot......now, I'm not saying that was the culprit, because it would run at times with fans on......but I think that may have been the issue.....no way to tell now, and no going back...

I was able to take the Goblin for a spin today. The V8, 5 speed and 33s.

Man, what a great combo

Lou knocked this build out of the park
