One step forward

so um.....yeah...i either have 10 wrong or 2 wrong. evidentially there are 2 types of studs that i got from beno.....i am guessing, with MY luck, that the longer of the two is for the rear axles.......

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggg

I've got it under control.

monster and chocolate milk don't mix

I'm fat, It's all good.

That may have been a haiku....

im realizing that now. dont kno about the model....but it is definitely wrong. didnt notice until i was about to bolt it all back together....

we are getting it squared up....

guess i will strip wiring the rest of the way now until i get the replacement studs from beno and a few other things.

Lotta catching up to do. but I was able to get the rest of the harness pulled. Intact. And only 2-3 connectors were crumbling. Amazing that a 40 year old vehicle that's been through the ringer has connectors still this good.

Now I'm ready to finish cleaning up the under carriage and get it coated and start reassembling.

Anyone with wiring knowledge mind coming over and showing me what and why they've spliced in this trailer harness? Have a couple connectors that weren't connected to anything either.

so. next on my list is cleaning up and recoating the underside of the 40.

can anyone tell me what finish is "most" appropriate for the axles/frame etc? satin, gloss, etc? i have currently repainted the tranny mount and some things gloss black....but i am thinking of having them powdercoated and dont want to have a bunch of tones around....

Got my new wheel studs in. But I noticed an issue. Apparently I "may" have messed these guys up driving in the wrong studs.

Most of them seat almost to the bottom of the knurled section. One hub, they all sat at about the same depth- 1/16" to drive in. I feel like they're "tight" but only required a light hammering to seat.

The other one is not as good. One sits up like I feel it should. 2 of them go in and out of the hole with -0- resistance. And the others are seated almost to bottom.

Check the pix and tell me what you think.......

This is how they all sat on one of the hubs.

This is one of them that goes in and out. At will.

This is how I feel like they should seat before driving in. Only one. Smh.

Or wire wheel, insert stud, and do a very small tac weld.

thought about that too...i MAY just use a little bit of JB weld at the base of the 2-3 studs that are so wallowed out...

thanks yall.

Made a little more progress today. Tomoro will be better. Going to finish prepping under the body and paint.

Re did the heater box and peanut buttered the blower plastics.

Gonna let it soak in a day or two. Just like granddad used to do.

Also made some tracks with the angle grinder.

I want to "like" your progress, but damn that looks like it hurt. Do they make the blue band-aids big enough to cover that up?

For real though, that heater box looks awesome.
