Got a new battery installed and now have no audio and a blank display screen.

Back up camera still working.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmmmm……just installing a new battery would not cause that. Did you do the install? If someone else did, I wonder if they briefly reversed polarity and messed things up. That should have been noticeable right away to the shop. Did they return the vehicle to you like that? I would start by looking at fuses. If the relevant ones are ok, maybe disconnect the battery negative for a few minutes to see if that resets.

I went to autozone and watched him install it the whole time.
Simple swap.

I am going to pull the fuses when I get a break at work and see.
I had disconnected the battery and pressed on the brake to drain any charge but that didn't work.

I left a message with the service tech at a dealership.
Hopefully I will have an answer soon.

Not sure if not having an SD card and navigation setup is causing this issue.

That's a whole nothing can of worms.
Getting the run around about obtaining the original SD with them saying the card is on "back-order".

Well I have pulled a bunch of fuses noted here and other places.
They are all good.

I disconnected the battery overnight and still no luck.
Also noticed the rear entertainment is no longer working.

No phone, radio, nothing.

Making me second guess trading in for the LC.
I had a kick ass lifted Tacoma before this with zero issues.

I assume you’re still under warranty? I agree it sucks, but at least it will be on the dealership’s dime to diagnose and fix if so. I had a radio go out in my old 16 and my current 18. Bad luck, but was under warranty.

I wish.
Its a used 2016 with 80K miles.

The dealership I bought from unfortunately is not Toyota, but Ill have to look thru the paperwork as it came with a 3000 mile warranty of some sort.

Doubt it covers electronics...

I find it hard to believe no one else has had this issue during a battery swap. I have been searching the forum for days to no avail.

Kind of related.... Does anyone know how to obtain a Nav SD card without going to the stealership?

When I bought the truck it was missing. I don't know if that is part of my problem or not.

Here is an exchange from the SQOD thread. I looks like the cards are available for around $200 from a dealer. From this thread, It seems the '21 maps are about to be released. However, I really know nothing more than what I copied, because I never use the factory nav and don't ever update.

I suspect the dealer will start by requesting you have a SD card in there, just to work on the problem. Older versions may be available on eBay, etc. but I know from the 100 forum that many folks have had issues with used cards/CDs.

From @Fisher23 in May 2021:

Regarding the NAV card - it's for sale here and the only one I found that looks legit.
But I wouldn't call it a great price:

Nav Msd Card V.20.1 - Toyota (86271-GN8LC-20)

Does anyone know when these get updated?
I'd hate to actually buy one of these things and have them come out with an update in a month.

They get updated every year in November. the last 2 digits indicate the update so ending in "20" indicates the 11/2020 update.

I asked the dealer the other day and that is what I was told.

Most dealers sell them for about $210, but I think jobber price is about $165.

I found it for $189 here

Is it possible to copy and share the source file?

I don't know, but a well educated guess would be no. If it were possible, there would be bootleg versions all over the Internet.

I know there are free cloning programs that supposedly work, but I have never had the need to try.

Ah, but read the comments on that web site.........comment after comment about failure. It may be worth only what it cost you.

The majority of those comments look like they tried to clone a card that was already used or used in another vehicle.

I suspect you would need to mirror/clone the card prior to being used, provided it is not vin locked.
Many times you need to order these type of cards and provide your vin #, if that is the case then they are vin locked.

If they are vin-locked you can clone the card as a Back-up to your vehicle only.

I wish they would put an optional TOPO map overlay/layered option on these like GPS systems do.

I'll toss this into the mix, I have no idea if it's true, it may be urban legend.

I was told by more that one source that if the map source data is not an absolutely genuine DVD or SD card, that it bricks the unit. Hope that's not your issue.

I just reached out them to see if it will fit.
Not sure if they are indeed VIN specific.

Gave them a brief description of what is going on, hopefully will have some answers.

No radio sucks on the 40 minute drive to work.

Just got off the phone with the dealer.

Apparently the above part number is actually a disk not an SD card and will not work with my model.

86271-60420 is the part number for the SD card that will fit my vehicle...

It's on sale right now for $872.35!

Went to the dealership.

They cannot find the problem, but offered to replace my entire unit for $1245.
Was hoping this forum would have the answers I need but unfortunately I am on my own with this one.

Might get the Tesla screen but I heard there are issues with those as well.

I just need somewhere to bitch and here I am!

$1245 is "reasonable" compared to list prices, but I think I'd go with a newer Tesla unit. Or see if you can ship it off somewhere for repair.
