Guys,

What would a 1986 FJ60 in good condition cosmetically(original paint), with 187,000 miles and NO RUST be worth? It has two small dings and a couple scratches, but nothing major. It's completely original with the exception of normal wear items like tires, shocks, etc. The compression checks out at 157-160 in all cylinders. Has new BFG A/T tires. Everything is operational except the window washer and it is still smogged. The guy wants somewhere in the $9500 range, and I want to make sure I know what the market is before I make any moves. Please educate me. I've only been in the 40 world up until now. :D

187K!?, less than 1/2 of $9,500

it will need springs, manifold tune up, a knuckle OH, maybe new radiator, come up to t-case OH (goes along with 5 speed install), if you need smog --it must be 100%.

About every 2-3 months I hear of a 140-150K FJ60 in the $4,500 range from California/AZ area (I am in Tucson). The days of $9,500 trucks are long gone- you can easily find a lower mileage 1993-1995 FZJ80 for that price with less miles.

I recently bought a very clean '87 FJ60 (California vehicle) with no rust, good compression and 145K miles for $6500 - not a great deal, but OK. I dropped a little more than half again that much in MTRs, an H55F, Tcase rebuild, new clutch assembly and hydraulics, resolution of some smog and PS issues, and some minor mods.

I expect you could easily do as well, and have a better truck for the money.

i got my fj62 1988 159000 miles for $5500 in great shape. the dude wants way to much from you. i think $7500 is high and $6500 is a safe price and anything below check things out for problems but it could be a deal.

Hey 78crzr are you talking about this FJ60 ?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=6443&item=2445637090

it is on EBAY down in Las Vegas?

Either way, I agree with previous posts that $9500 is way too high. I would ask if he is connected to Vintageoffroad.com ("scam artist").

I had a mint FJ60 from Southern California with 125k and one owner for $5500
I recently sold it to my dad for so I could buy a 97' 80 series. Walk, or better yet run from this seller. He is taking advantage of you.

Sounds like my truck, when I bought it two years ago, except mine had 165k--and I paid $3,000. Since then, some rust has popped up (northeast truck) and I've put about $1,500 of work into her and I haven't done the springs yet.

For $9,500 you can get an early 80 series in great shape with fewer miles, I bet.

If it is as you say, I wouldn't pay more than $4,500. You can get a great 60 with some toys (lift, tires, maybe even lockers) for $5,500 if you look around.

9500......MUCH too much. As wtih the others half that or so.

late 85(forget what month) to 87 are the best fj60's. easy swap to a 5 speed.

I found my 86 fj60, with 92,000 on it at a dealer 4 years ago(market was still pretty high then) bone stock, not rust, interior perfect and not in need of much, $7000.

few weeks ago in the seattle auto trader there was a 86-7 at a dealer with 116k on it for 6k, no rust, stock, buddy saw it when looking for a 100, said it was real nice.

oh and that 60 on Ebay......nice job painting the frame~

It's Vegas baby.......your gamblin :D

I could have bought a 94 pefectly maintained (dealer records of axle service etc) FZJ80 w/lockers for that much, even that truck wasn't worth it. No way I would pay that for ANY 60.

I looked on and off for a year.
Looked for a builder fj 60 In my mind a ideal rig was a Straight body Good interior rig / with a blown engine. For say 2G's

First rig i looked at a guy bought off ebay, was supposed to be good running, minor rust. He paid like 3700.00 shipped from Illonois. It turned out to be a rust bucket. He was asking 1200.00 Just trying to unload it. I looked at it and was able to chip sheets of rust off the frame the size of my palm.

I kept my eyes open for a long time and about a month ago there were 3 for less than 3k in the local paper.

#1 blown engine with one bad door. asking 2k
#2 Another ebay rig , had more rust than the buyer expected and was willing to fix 2700.00 she was very negotable
#3 2nd owner rig 225,000miles serviced by a shop with recipts for last 12 years. Pretty big dent in one door, mint interior, Everything works. asking 2750

I called on all 3 but after talking to #3 thought I had found my new rig. Turns out that the current owner was friends with the previous owner.

I went and looked and liked it, so much that I felt guilty trying to negoiate.
I asked if he was at all flexible, he said yes, So I asked what he would take he said 2500.00 SOLD

So Shop around. This guy was asking 2750.00 because he went to trade it in and they tried to give him 1200.00 for it.
I have seem many fj60 for 5000.00 that are not as nice.

Where are you at? there has been a 83 60 series for sale for the last 1-2months in Bozeman MT asking $3200 It's not mine and I haven't seen it

That's about what I expected the response to be, but wanted to make sure that I wasn't off base before telling this guy to put down the crack pipe and get real. :flipoff2: It never ceases to amaze me what some of these guys try to put past you.(Vintage Off-Road types) If you guys hear of any solid 60's rigs out there that don't have rust or dents, and are in tip top original shape let me know. I'm in no big hurry as it won't be my DD. Thanks for the validation of what I suspected.. :D

for $10k it better look like this .... but the ebay one was clean on the inside .... gota love a GOOD detail ;) 5000 cruiser and a $100 detail makes it a $9500

BTW i sold my 75 k 86 for $7000 and it was almost as clean
