Yes, indeed they do! There’s a little maneuvering needed to convert it from vac to manual shift if I recall correctly. I picked up shifters off a late H42/split combo a la FJ60. You need to drill/tap/add a detent in place of the old vac actuator. Details are all outlined in the FAQ. I’m hazy on it all, but the late cases mounted off the A440s (an FJ62 was where I grabbed mine) are 38mm idlers and I think are marginally better than the earlier splits.Question of ignorance- would a tcase from an A440 (auto) work with a 5-speed. I think it would from what I can tell.

As I remember the output shaft on the A440F has short splines. The transfer case input gear does not have splines at the front to fit over the output shaft. Going from a A440F to manual is not a problem. But does have shorter spline contact. Manual transfer case to A440F the input gear will not slide on far enough.Yes, indeed they do! You may be right, but I don’t remember the spline length presenting an issue. I pulled the auto and tore down the split case, Georg put it all back together and mated it to the H55. I can tell you that I’m looking at it right now, so it worked. So what the current value of the 40 series H55F top cover? Last used used one I seen for sale was $1,350. Not in the market myself. I remember it was over fifteen years they were $600 and thought that was high. Over the years purchased whole setup and later a spare cover was offered to me for a decent price.

Years ago the easy solution to OD in a 78 FJ40 would have been the Fairey Overdrive. Only mod required was a hole for the shifter in the transmission cover.
