Can you cross the Verde on FR638 East of Paulden. I have been to the North access FR638 a long time ago but dont remember a crossing. Maps show FR638 coming from the North and South. Normally a non approved water crossing has 2 differing FR numbers like Childs and Sheeps Crossing. Has anyone done it or have any Useful info.

Let me check with my brother. He lives up there and does Search n Rescue all over the place. John

been about 2 yrs, but i was able to cross easily. i was headed south on 638 and found a crossing just after the last turn in the rd when you start to drive parallel to the river, i had to wind my way around a bit to get back on 638 on the other side, but it was easy enough.

Cool thanks - did you fish when you went?

My brother said that most of the river crossings east of 89 have been closed thanks to the Greenies. He's going to do a little more checking tomorrow. I didn't ask him about the fishing, but I will.

i had my pole, but not much fishing around that part of the verde unless you find a nice hole.
on that crossing, i dont know if its an official one or not, but there were several tracks and what looked like 3 different crossings used at various times. i chose the one that looked best.

Planning on going snorkling? :bounce:

I parked in the middle of the Verde once, and fished out of the sunroof. it was a blast. :)
I like that idea. Your beer cooler can't float away.

I did not make it to the Verde yet, but I did cross below Horseshoe Dam yesterday and caught me an OK large mouth Bass. The best part is the weather in that area, always a good show:popcorn: and last night was not disappointing.

I have been down there a couple of times. Once with my two wheel drive patrol car that almost got to stay there and once with the troopie. I don't believe there is a crossing there. There is a picnic area there and most or all the roads leading out of there have been closed. I think it is one way in and out now. I haven't spent alot of time out there, but Perkinsville is the only guaranteed crossing with the storms we have been having up here. Good luck.

Good info..any fish there?

Thanks

Sorry I don't get to the computer often enough. I have never fished it, but I have talked to a few people who said they caught there limit in Rainbow trout in that stretch. Just small stuff 10-12 inchers. Fair eating size though.

I'd be game to cruise up there and just ride around to check it all out. Nice place, and cooler than the valley. Especially since nobody has come up with a wheeling trip yet. John

Looks like Crown King this weekend?

Not for everyone;)

Knowing you Phil, youll be near a nice water feature with a fishing pole in your hand.

THere were a couple cool teaser days last week but Im afraid its back to the nasties (105-107*) here this weekend. I have a feeling that the first or second nice weekend we will see several trail run threads pop up.

Phil, I still havent done Montana Mountain - I am going to try to get up there before the end of the year.
