I need to sell my 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser, which I purchased about two years ago with the intention of restoring it. Unfortunately, after the recent passing of my father-in-law—the mechanic and car restoration enthusiast who was spearheading the project—I no longer have the time or expertise to see the restoration through. And I need to empty the garage where we were previously working on the vehicle so it needs to move as a whole and not parting it out.

Any suggestions or advice on where or how or how much to list it for would be appreciated? I live in NC and am going to relist it on the Old State North Cruisers site, in hopes for a local pick up... Here's a link to a bunch of photos if anyone is interested in seeing it's former and current state.

Any assist is greatly appreciated...

Below is my tentative classified description:

I think this is ideal for restoration enthusiasts or as a parts vehicle. I'm not a mechanic, so while I might not have all the technical details, I'm happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. My main goal is to find someone who can make good use of it, whether by continuing the restoration or utilizing it for parts, I don’t have the time or expertise to part it out piece by piece, but I’m open to suggestions and opinions with any help on how best to sell it. I’m located in Cary, NC. And FYI, the first few pics of the fully put together car are the before pics and not the current 'frame off body' state.

Pricing: Any fair offer will be considered. Please feel free to reach out with any reasonable offer or for more information

Year/Model: 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 3-FE
~250K miles

Condition: Not currently running because the frame is currently separated from the body, but it was running fine beforehand.

Some of the high level work done:
-Extensive rust removal on the frame, professionally sandblasted, nuts and bolts restored and in great shape
-Many parts were individually removed and hand sandblasted, primed/sealed and finished with a high temp enamel
-Structural strengthening of the frame. There were a few areas of the frame where the rust ate through, these areas were cut out and patched with sheet metal and welded in place
-Brand new OME shocks, brand new 12 piece brake line kit installed
-I've got new seat upholstery that needs to be put on
-Restored, sealed and very clean gas tank
-The floor of the body was also primed, sealed and finished with enamel

It’s probably easily worth a couple grand to someone. Will take the right person to come get it all and haul it off though. It might be worth having someone put it together.

You really have 2 options.

Option 1: Sell as is to someone willing to take on the project. As you know, it's a big project. You will probably take a bath on the deal, since the next person will be taking on a lot of risk.

Option 2: Part it out. You may not be a mechanic, but you can probably use a few tools to take things off the truck. From looking at the pics, you have a lot of quality and in-demand parts that may sell for more than what you can get for the whole thing.

As it is this is nothing but a pile of parts. Difficult to say what it's worth as the condition of the engine, transmission, t-case is unknown and can't be checked with a test drive. Selling it as is will be your best course of action, even if you lose money on it, since you don't have the time or expertise to reassemble the Cruiser. As pointed out you could part it out and make more money, but what will happen is that doing so will require a lot time pricing parts, answering questions, boxing and shipping, and 5 years from now you will still have unsold parts in your garage.

This could be a good deal for someone so advertise widely.

Better to sell it to someone that will bring it back to life .. if you care about those sentiments

Hey there. Yeah I could be interested in the truck for the right price. Live 4 hours away I’m Va. could haul it away for you. What’s the chances the body can go back on the frame? Welcome to message me about it

Hey... if you're asking the chances of me getting it back on the frame, prob not... however, the body is up on a lift at the moment, so if you were willing to put it back on the frame, you'd be welcome to do it at pick up time and I'd be happy to assist whatever way I can.

Do u have a 'right price' estimate? I paid $11k for it (in its running state), got convinced by my father in law to do some big ticket restoration work, so put it in another ~4-6k on things... I wasn't expecting to get back anywhere near what I invested, so am just listening to community feedback really on price advice.

Yeah I could put it back on the frame. That’s not a problem for me. Honestly cant come anywhere near that price. But Welcome to message me and we could talk it though.
