Hey guys, sadly I'm selling my '89 FJ62. Had a kid, money's tight, don't drive it enough etc. I've done my research but since my truck is not showroom ready, figured I'd ask you experts what I should fix, and what's not worth it. Not sure what I'd really get for it. I want to be fair to any buyer-- i'm not selling a problem-truck-- just want to get a fair price.

194k miles. Just did a ton of work to get it in shape... list below. But, what else should I do? I have some rust spots, unfortunately a dent on each front door, but don't think fixing those is worth the return on a sale. Right? I'm in Los Angeles area so easy to find LC shops, but man you roll up in an older Land Cruiser and think you're ready for a $20k restoration!

I'm going to post on BAT. Any advice is helpful. Here's a list of recent work, and pics too! Thanks y'all.

194k miles.
Trans rebuilt 30k mi ago.
New radiator / thermostat
Replace rearwheel seal / brake
Replaced brake master, shoes/pads/calipers replaced
Tune up (plugs, timing, filters)
New exhaust.

Unhappy parts of the truck... a few rust spots (AZ for 20+yrs, 5 in NY, last 7 in So Cal), seep underneath that I can't afford to fix. Seats in great shape, dash / driver arm rest not so great shape. Cargo area needs new carpet on the back but working with the carpet man here on getting some pieces before I sell it.

Pics in this thread and will post interiors in a reply here. Will get it detailed before posting to BAT.

thanks y'all.

replace the door card(s) and pop them dents out at the same time, a bit of polishing on the exterior paint, maybe run some thicker oil and AT205 through it to slow or stop that leak, shampoo the seats and the interior, put a dash rug in it......
then keep it forever 🤣 (fits the whole family ;))
or sell it

Power wash the chassis, detail, polish paint, and cross your fingers. That’s about as fair as you can be to any buyer IMO.

the seepage could very well be the valve cover or side cover on the engine.
as stated above, clean/detail and good pics help in selling

Research BAT, looking at each sale listing to see what condition various LCs are in and at what price they sold? Obviously, look for one that appears to be in a condition similar to yours. That may give you some idea what you can expect to get. I'm not sure that BAT will be the place to sell it. Hard to tell. The advice here is good on sprucing it up, but you would have to spend even more than $20K to get it to a place that would command a pretty penny, and possibly even then not break even. The relatively low mileage is the biggest plus, I would think. Good luck.

and the sale was done or no?
