I gotta tell ya Gary, just looking at those photos I wouldn't trust it...It just looks , I donno know,,, fake? is that the right word? It is a nice specimen, but it just doesn't look right.... If I had it to do all over again, and I could deal with the RH drive I'd be checking out these guys.
Land Cruisers Direct - Home direct imports and they have a pristine reputation. I've seen some really nice looking 80s go very quickly..

I wonder what the deal is about them having Vermont registration

For the record, it's pretty easy to get a valid Vermont registration and plate for an older vehicle. You can turn this into a title in almost any state. You don't even have to be a VT resident, and it can be done via mail, maybe even just online.

I have bought a diesel Cruiser from them and many things where not disclosed on mine and in another tread on Mud some folks found out that they have sold several cruisers from japan with rolled back odometers.Better check it out in person.

I've heard some horror stories as well, and I've caught them with several trucks that have odometer discrepancy.

For example...

The HDJ81 mentioned earlier this thread: HDJ810010031

Advertised as having 72,000 miles, but mileage was reported as 221,800 in Japan in 2014 and 209,400 in 2012. Might still be a nice truck, but definitely not "72,000 miles". Records search report attached, page one shows the VIN, page two shows the reported KM's. This is something akin to Carfax for Japan. The report states "Odometer Rollback: No problem" because the rollback occurred after it left Japan. Buyer beware when dealing with these guys.

PS - I've contacted Mendel's Garage each time they've been selling a Land Cruiser with the odometer rolled back. They just emailed me to say this HDJ81 is sold and that they disclosed the odometer discrepancy to the buyer. The last time they told me that, it wasn't true and a mud member got burned. Anyone know the buyer?

I drove down to Philly to look at the truck today and was told that a buyer from Georgia had made them an offer on EBay that they had accepted and was picking up the truck this Friday. I looked the truck over fairly well and started and moved it in their lot but did not drive it. I asked about the mileage, answer was that was the mileage they got it with. I would be very surprised if the potential buyer was told about any odometer discrepancy after what I was told. Steve, thanks for the detailed info, and thanks to Joe Katana for other info I may have been lucky today that the truck was already "sold" although they hadn't received any deposit as noontime this morning. No idea who the buyer is as the EBay listing has been pulled.

In the meantime, Steve, I emailed you about a similar looking 91 that you have coming in. I am highly appreciative of the input from everyone who replied to my thread. Thanks!!!!!!

So I was right about the mileage. Gary, I think you did well that the truck was sold when you got there.

Actually Steve Jackson is getting ready to move his operation to SLC. I have my eye opn two "incoming" vehicles shown in his inventory. Also looking in a few other places. Stay tuned!

Wait till it gets here! Hopefully the transport company will be bringing it home here in PA next week. Will post pics at that time. I'm psyched!

Actually I do have some photos. It's a 90 HDJ81 with auto tran, factory lockers, power unroof, 1" ligft, 35 inch tires, and it's clean as a whistle inside, out, and underneath. no rust anywhere in fact the entire truck, including the lower inside edges of all doors and the tailgate are lined with a prettty efficient looking rust preventative. Drove up to the Boston area Tuesday to look it over, take a test drive, and make the deal. just waiting for the teransport company to pick it up, hopefully early next week. Stay tuned!
