Guys- I posted this message on the diesel section of mud looking for opinions on what to look for in my search for a good overland type vehicle with diesel power. Not interested in adding a turb to a 3B or doing an Isuzu conversion- I want to buy a turn key truck that I can maybe option out a bit to suit my personal needs and just drive with confidence. right now i'm kleaning toward a nice HJ81 think it's a 91. Any input from you diesel or expedition guys is appreciated. Here's a link to my blurb:

Best Toyota diesel choice for expedition type vehicle

No. I am trying to be patient, intelligent and not impulsive/impetuous in buying a truck. I do believe the one in Philly is a great choice- especially with the way it's alrweady set up for a person to sleep in. Sort of a an already storage type/sleepign arrangement with no additional expense. I'm hoping to get down there to see it next week between the holidays. I did text the phone number in the EBay listing asking about hours of availability to see/drive the truck but had no response. If I get serious about making the drive to Philly I will call.
Interestingly enough years ago I owned a 91 FJ80 same color as the red and silver one in Philly. My youngest used it for the two years she lived and working in the poconos and loved it. Except for the gas mileage with the 3FE and the fact it needed to eb jumped occasionally it was a good winter driver for her. She lived out in the boonies and never got stuck in it.

There is that diesel 80 that come into my shop. It's bone stock and the interior has seen better days. It's actually still sitting here. I could hae one of our guys give him a ring to see if he'd consider selling it and if so how much.

I will be in touch after Christmas. I agree, $18K would be an excellent price if the truck is as good as it sounds. Locked, lifted, bumper, winch, bed setup, nice seats, good tires, cool wheels. Plus it's close enough to go take a look at and maybe drive ti home. Very nice truck! We'll see what happens.

I'm surprised to read this Gary, I thought you'd be sick of diesel after spending time on the trail with me....

The more I look at it, the more I like it! That color scheme is having a hypnotic effect on me...seriously!

Idk, I'd hold out for a LHD version of that truck. With the 25 year EPA thing we should start to see a bunch of deisel 80s and 70s hit our shores. Maybe shoot a PM to Frank at Land Cruiser Haven who's just recently relocated to our area. I think he's got connections in left hand drive countries in South America.

I have bought a diesel Cruiser from them and many things where not disclosed on mine and in another tread on Mud some folks found out that they have sold several cruisers from japan with rolled back odometers.Better check it out in person.

Good info. I wonder what the deal is about them having Vermont registration. I recall seeing this on other diesel cruisers they've posted that were located in Greensboro.

Edit: Misread....thought he was talking about the one in Greensboro.
