Hey guys, this is going to kind of an odd post, but this group seems like my best resource. I have a 1991 FJ80 with a 3FE in it. The truck has been with me for a while and I don't really have any intention of parting with it, well ever if I can help it. And since the 3FE setup was kind of a limited run for the US mostly, fuel injection parts are getting hard to find. MAFs are unobtanium, injectors are getting that way and there are several other parts that are going to be hard to replace. So with all that said, I've been looking at my options for longevity and one I am considering seriously is to swap a carb'd 3F head, intake and exhaust o to the truck and ditch all the OE injection for an aftermarket system like the Holley Sniper. It would eliminate all the stuff I can't find and would let me keep this thing going without having to look into a motor swap.

So my question to your group is where do you all source parts in the US. I've found a head shop in Australia that I've reached out to, but haven't had much response from and if I knew part numbers I would check Partsouq, but other than those 2, would any of you have any resources to share. Or if any of you with a 3F that may be looking at a swap would want to unload your 3F bits, I would be interested.

Thank you all and I look forward to your responses.

Bump. Bueller?

May be better to post in the 80 series forum.

Assume you tried Spector Off Road and Cool Cruisers of TX.

Try Kurt of Cruiser Outfitters or others in the vender forum.

I'll try Kurt. As far as the 80 series forum, the 80 never got a carb in the US. All the trucks were 3FE. The carb'd 3F was much more common in the 70 series in other parts of the world. Which is why I figured I'd see where you 70 series guys go for parts, as I'll have to go to a non-NA supplier to find the bits I need to make the carb conversion

3F carbs are not so easy to find these days. When I sold one few years back I had plenty of calls, mostly from people who had 60 and 7* series fitted with Holleys or Webers and found out they are junk on a Landcruiser.

I'm mostly looking for the intake and exhaust manifolds, the head and intake hat. Don't need the carb, plan to run a sniper or similar aftermarket efi on it. Don't happen to have any of those laying around do you? I see your in Australia, know any good suppliers that will ship to US? I found a place online called Allhead that is in Australia, but they haven't responded to my enquiry

I hate to be the guy to not answer the original question and offer alternative suggestions instead but why not just get a head stateside and use 2F manifolds on it if you are wanting to waste so much time on such a downgrade? The 85-up 2F head is the same as 3F.

The better waste of time, that wouldn’t be a downgrade, would be to use a microsquirt and LS sensors to run your port injection if you really are actually having difficulty finding 3FE parts which I doubt you are. I have about twenty five local 3FE powered FJ62’s and 80’s i service regularly and am not having to put carbs or aftermarket TBI on any of them :meh:

OEM Port injection > Aftermarket TBI. Period.

So I am not currently having any issues with the 3FE, it runs and drives just fine. It was my intention to just try and get some idea as to what my option would be when the time comes.

As far as parts availability, the AFM is the one that it tough. You using the Camry units, or do you have another source? Reman'd injectors from somewhere like cruiserparts.net or other? Those are the big ones, but I'm sure there are other things that may come into play.

The initial conversation about what to do if it ever starts giving any trouble. I had thought about an LS swap, but I don't know that I want to get into that. So the idea of a 1FZ drivetrain swap was kicked around, but again, requiring a swap and again, not really interested in getting into that. So then we dropped back to what can be done to the current 3FE to keep it on the road. At that point, the idea of swapping to a 3F intake and adding an aftermarket system.

So to your point, I have not tried to run down a specific part, but my intention is to see what my options are for the time when I can't find what I need. If I can keep finding parts, then I will keep the current setup. And I am also interested in options, so if they are out there, sounds like I just need to get a good list of sources.

Thanks

The only time i see the MAF go bad is when people try messing with them.
Otherwise they are a forever part from what I’ve seen.
Injectors are easy, just send yours or a used donor set off to be rebuilt at any reputable injector rebuilder :meh:

I have one or two known good examples of each critical 3FE part on the shelf as shop testers, a MAF, coil/ignitor, IAC, TPS and have not had to use any of them.

Plus there are plenty of running FJ62’s and 80’s getting LS swaps. So lots of donor motors.
People talk about “3FE parts scarcity” but i just dont see it. And i daily drove a 3FE rig for 6 years. It was 100% original EFI equipment

Well I think the 3FE parts scarcity is directed at the new factory parts. Lots of critical parts have been discontinued, like the AFM, IACV, FPR, Distributor, Ignitor, EGR, sensors. That being said, we have a couple things in our favor: 1 the parts are high quality and last a super long time (like you said), and 2 : the cruiser community has been great at finding Toyota work arounds.

Don't happen to have any of those laying around do you?

I sold my tired old 3F to a guy who wanted it for a rebuild except the carburettor and some other bits which were sold individually. I would take Cruisermatts advice. Shipping on the manifolds would be expensive. And wreckers who have those parts often keep them and build a complete engine for sale.

I appreciate all the feedback. I am going to continue to see what my options are, which was the point of the original question. Just trying to see what's out there and where I can get parts from for this old truck. The 40 and 60 have some options, the 1FZ has a reasonable amount of support, the 3FE was kind of a b@stard child that people just want to ease into oblivian, 1 LS swap at a time...

You could contact FJ40Jim, he may be able to rebuild your carb or have a source for parts.

@RHINO interesting, what year engine and trans are you using?

City racer sells great after market and oem carbs. I have installed many of both. 3fe 8x stuff is getting hard to find. I have a great 97 fzfe engine for sale. with everything wiring ecm everything you need with tranny. Higher Mileage 250ish drove it 6 hrs to get it home ran perfect. $1500n n western co
