"Landcruiser for parts or repair. Starts runs drives inspection 8/2016. Needs front axle seals etc. Dings and dents. New parts in the last 2000 miles.. front brake pads, catalytic converters, shocks. 176k miles.
$2200.00 or best cash offer."

Body looks free of rust, interior is a bit tired. we're going to look at it tonight to check out the frame condition.

I thought you guys would have some good mechanical advice on problems with this rig. Should I be looking for anything specific and is 2,200 obo a good price? I bet he'd take less.

Chk Headgasket with the Radiator Bulb and Fluid Kit.
Tests OK --> Cash --> Title --> Run
If it's Rust free perfect canidate for a rebuilt motor.

You have the space to keep it inside and work on it?

Yes and No, we have an FJ40 in about a million pieces but we can move most of it around to work on the axles.

I'd buy it.

It's a 3FE. Why would you check the head gasket?

Oopsy! (I was up to late, had to see Beyonce)
Very unlikely that Head Gasket is bad on Cast Head to Cast Block
I would still do a Compression test if I was thinking of using that motor.

Front Axle Rebuild is about $150 for parts as long as you don't need bearings or other parts.
You might already have 54mm socket?

Got an update on some other things wrong. Seem like Ed China could sort this list quickly.
The head gasket is good as far as I know. The 1992's had the 3fe engine. The 1993-1997 had
the 1fz-fe engines that were prone to head gasket problems. I bought this Landcruiser from an
older couple in Ohio in 2012. The husband did not drive any more so the vehicle had been sitting.
I put new catalytic converters on in for PA inspection. Also, new shocks and new front brakes. It is
inspected until 8/2016. I was going to fix it up but never got the time. I put less than 1000 miles on
it mostly to keep the inspection up. I would still like to keep it but my wife wants it gone.

From memory, here is a list of other problems that I know of.

Besides the axle seal leaks.
There is an oil leak somewhere around the back of the oil pan.
The drivers front tire and the passenger rear tire have a slow leak.
The only window that works up and down is the drivers (slowly) The passenger rear window goes down but
needs help to raise it back up. The other two windows don't operate at all.
The moon roof glass is cracked but does not leak.
The radio antenna is broken off so the radio only gets one station.
The tires have good tread but are old.
The AC does not work.

That's about it to the best of my knowledge and from my limited driving. The low range and 4 wheel
drive works and the center differential lock works as of the last time I tried them. With anything used
it is best to look it over. I listed it for parts or to fix up.
If you are still interested I will let you know tonight if I still have it.

Why would you check the HG on a 3FE? It would be the last thing I would check on a 3FE.

Besides, it's a $2000 vehicle. What the heck do you want for $2000?! If it's rust free (or even in one piece) in Pennsylvania for $2000 you buy the damn thing and run.

Buy it. If you don't, I will. PM me the info if you decide not to buy it.

Buy It! and tow it home with a U-haul Trailer.

You can part it out if you do not want and still make more than you Paid.

Have a place to store it?

It seems like an ok deal, but I would try to get out of there for at most $1500. These rigs will nickle and dime you to death, and there is always a better deal out there.

I have had 2 3fe fj80s and both were sub $800.

3fe > 1fz-fe imho

Hi guys just wanted to post an update, we ended up buying it, and here are some pics so you can all take a peak. Frame seems to be in really good shape. Post is gonna be pic heavy

Nice color combo I like it. good score

Bought it last night. My sons got the 80 and dad has the 40. I'll post pics tonight. Going change fluids since it had been sitting awhile. The frame is nice body no rust and the motor runs great. Just need to sort a few issues like per windows and a leaky rear axle seal. I'm a happy camper

Dang it! So jelly! Good find. Congrats.
