Is it me, or i try and turn and swing the knuckle and it doesn't seem to rubb anywhere. Could i do not need to grind? or it has never been seen on a 40 axle.

BTW i have a bj42 83, installed 30 spline longfield.

TY

I have installed them into a 1984 60 series and did not have to grind anything to make them fit.

Thanks poser, from reading different thread i concluded later model had the space.

yup, you should not have to grind anything with the later housing.....

if it goes in, no grinding is required.........

Yeah - while it doesn't make any sense, my two longfield birfs seem to be slightly different sizes. Grind a bit on one side housing and one birf fits in fine, pull that birf out and try the other in the same side, and it doesn't fit - too big.

Anyone else run into this, or am I crazy?

78 and earlier housings will need grinding.

and, yes, headcase, you're crazy...just look at your name:grinpimp:

I have '84 FJ60 axles under my FJ55 and when I put my 30spl Longs in I did need to grind a little on the drivers side  The passenger side was fine. But it wasnt a big deal at all
