Does anyone have this tune with long tubes? Looking for reviews, they seem to be few and far between.

Yes, I have it, along with a custom exhaust behind the LT headers. My tune is a beta 87 octane Active Duty they were working on a month or so ago, perhaps they've done a full release now.

It's 100% worth it. My rig definitely pulls harder. They go very, very well together.

Good to hear, did you happen to have the standard VF Tune prior to using Yotawerx?

This is good to hear. I just order some LT headers a long with some other small mods. Once the headers get installed I plan on getting a tune. Ive heard the headers alone really open it up.

Are you on factory gears by chance ?

Yes, but 4.56s are in the works.

If you're really going for power/quickness and don't mind spending some coin, I'd highly suggest a Nomad valve body for the transmission and an exhaust. My exhaust was a very long saga (see my build thread - getting it to not have a crazy drone was challenging), but it did provide a noticeable power jump over just the headers alone.

How bad was the valve body install? Did you notice a difference in MPG? Did you also install the torque converter lockup device?

Also what exhaust did you end up with? I just ordered the magnaflow "overland", I read it did not have any drone.

The VB install was super easy and took about 3 hours. I had already changed my transmission fluid so I had the process figured out. I did install the lockup switch; the install was NOT easy and required splicing into the ECU harness. I probably spent 4-8 hours on that. There is no really difference in MPG unloaded, but a 10-20% increase while towing. And the GX is much sportier/fun to drive with firm shifts.

Read my build thread on the exhaust - I had a Borla Touring (supposed to be quiet) for a 5th gen 4Runner (heard it was a bolt-on, it wasn't). I added 2 resonators and is still droned so I sent it off to Dirty Deeds Industries who built me a custom one using the bones of the Borla system. I then tweaked one of the resonators a bit more and now it sounds awesome with almost zero drone. I don't see how any aftermarket muffler on these won't drone as none of the systems come with a built-in resonator.

I'd strongly suggest against any pre-packaged, name-brand exhaust and just get a Dirty Deeds instead. I would have saved a lot of money that way. He includes a quarter-wave resonator and it keeps the OEM rear/tailpipe resonator. The drone on these can be very bad while cruising at 50-65 mph; several folks on this forum have pulled off the Magnaflow Overland due to drone. Others have said it's not bad at all - it's a personal preference I guess.

I heard about the VB. How necessary is the lock up?

If you either tow or regularly pull mountain passes where you're in 3rd gear or lower, the lockup switch is very handy for keeping trans temps low. If you aren't doing that kind of driving it's unnecessary.

I have long tubes and 3" cat back on my 03 (non-vvti) and the MBP tune. You can FOR SURE tell the difference. I would say it is around a 10% improvement at the exact points that you need that 10%. Throttle response. Fuel/Air. Shift points. All improved when you want them to. Holds gear a touch longer, can accelerate at 70 mph without downshifting. Holds power longer on inclines without downshifting. Off the line it feels WAY faster. I drove 4600 miles in October and around 200ish of those offroad and got an average of 14mpg and highest tank was a 600 mile run on highway (I have an LRA) at 16 mpg with an average speed of 70. Lowest was 11mpg over 450 miles but I was hauling butt at 85mph average. This is all on 37s, 4.88s, nomad, tcc on, etc. so make sure you look at everything before comparing. All the calculations were GPS based and not using any analog or truck based measurements.

To further opine, it's amazing how fun a GX is to drive with these mods. I can't imagine a driving a stock 2UZ/A750F, knowing how much it leaves on the table. It isn't "fast" by any means, but has a great midrange torque curve and definitely puts you back in the seat. I rarely want for more power. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, with the classic N/A V8 power band, throttle response, and sound.

Totally agree!!

I just contacted a semi local guy who’s an authorized tune installer. He said because I was going catless with the Doug thorley LTs that he was unable to tune my truck for liability reasons.

Odd, I went through them directly and explained my mod situation. I bought the data cable and VF tuner license through them and loaded the tune myself. They do have a liability waiver.

I'd reach out to YotaWerx and go around your local guy.

Not if it was a shop in Virginia.....and even worse a shop in Virginia that does inspections.

The authorized tune installers are usually independent guys who load the tunes themselves in parking lots and are typically not shop-affiliated. That being said, many states have very strict laws as you have indicated. Either way it's worth seeing if they'll ship you a cable, loading the tune is really easy (if you can type a Word document you can do it).

I’m assuming your are catless as well? Where are you located? I just reached out to yotawerx instagram page.

I'm have the 2 downstream cats remaining in the midpipe, but both upstreams got deleted when I installed the LT headers. I'm in good 'ol emissions free Missouri. You can also reach them via email: yotawerxtuning@gmail.com
