I’ve got a Lock-rite (Powertrax automatic positive-locking differential) in my Cruiser just wondered what happens if two different size tyres are fitted? Just before anybody shoots me down, different sizes I mean, same make and size. Lets say you get a flat and the spare has 30% tread on and the other 90% there would be a difference in the height (circumference) between the tyres, yes. What could/would happen to the drive train?

I don't think your going to see any difference on a tire of the same size with wear differences.

my .02

I think you would have to have a bigger difference then what there would be with a spare with more tread but still the same "size" as the tire on the opposite end.
The only way I would be worried was if your tires are say 33X12.50s and your spare is a 31X10.50 or smaller.

I think the locker will get confused and lock/unlock more then it needs. Especially if it is at the looser end of the spec. I know I have to have my air pressures darn close, or it squiggles around more. If I have the air pressure bang on, it is pretty much seamless. I would interpolate from this that one worn and one nearly new will be noticed.

When the truck is on the road I rotate my tires fairly regularly due to this, ensuring my spare is included in the rotation (oil changes).

Oh...my experience is with the Ozzy locker, and I am assuming the one you mention functions pretty much the same way.

if worried, and i wouldn't be, then stick 35psi in the worn one and leave the other at 28 psi to make up the difference...
cheers

It may also depend on how worn the thrust bushings are. Mine doesn't ratchet around a turn. It just wears the tires more :)

Ya, I think mine is a little on the looser side, and will be checking/tightening it up in the spring...when Poo is back on the road sporting a 13BT (BJ74 is landing this month and donating it's engine:D)

The most automatic lockers alow the outside wheel in a turn, run faster .. always that the secret.

No option to one wheel turn slow than other .. only turno more faster than other one in the same axle.
