Hey all,

Im currently 6months into owning my LJ78 prado. It's a jap import and has been a 1owner vehicle since arriving into New Zealand in 1999, before I purchased it in 2024. It has 340,000kms and unfortunately the previous owner was no help as to what's been done to the truck as it was her late husbands and she was just selling it as it never got used anymore.

Judging from the hours I've spent reading through forums on here most 2lte's dont make it this far on the original head, but before disregarding the issue I want to see for myself that it has or hasnt been done. What can I look for to see that the heads been replaced? And ontop of that to see that it's been replaced with a head that doesn't have the issues the early 90's 2ltes had?

On a side note, the truck loves to get really hot going uphill. It does have a couple of coolant leaks I'm hoping that are the fault for the overheating. They're coming from the radiator and bottom hose. I've ordered a larger radiator but if it doesn't fit ill just get the old one repaird. Currently looking for a top and bottom hose but struggling to find one that isn't on the other side of the world...(any help with that would be appreciated)

Thanks for reading and any help would be very much appreciated,

Louis.

Welcome. Also order a co2 coolant tester. To rule out overheating due to cracks in the head.
