here you go, I'm enjoying your thread. It's good to see this truck coming back to life. I remember seeing pictures of it from the previous owner and thinking it seemed to be in great shape.

awesome! thanks! i'll have to check with shane and see if he has copies of those.

bit more done today. got the windshield vent removed. have to get a good spot weld drill bit to zip it apart so i can make the new gasket. anyone have any recommendations brandwise?

pulled the tool box cover off so i could pull the jack and handle to take to work to blast and repaint.

also pulled a vent and cleaned it up so the body shop can try to match the paint. looks soooooo dang good i wanna buff the whole thing.

found it has two different wiper arms. iirc, my 45 has one like the drivers side. passenger side i've not seen before, but then i don't stare at wiper arms. also found this cool old screwdriver.

ok, my add is kicking in. trying not to make this one of those nights when pighead has to come tell me it's time to come in, but there was still things i could quickly do.

new plugs are gapped and in, along with new wires. still waiting on cap and rotor from cdan. plug wires were original, coil wire was replaced at one time.

also getting the master cylinder lids of was proving troublesome. the entire reservoir just wanted to rip off. time for a mix of heat and cold. trust me, this was only about 20 seconds of heat on the upper bend of the reservoir, followed by a blast of cold from loctite freeze and release. makes for an impressive show tho.

the reservoir is empty, but while cleaning the rear cylinders and antiseizing the adjusters earlier today, i did have fluid dripping out....we shall see if there's an issue with a cylinder or just a leak somewhere

this morning was, once again, spent scraping, scrubbing, brushing.....this time it's the rear axle. got the cover off and she looks real good inside. no evidence of how long she sat. normally, there would be some rust on the upper surfaces, but everything is immaculate!

she has been wheeling. the ring around the diff drain required clearancing and the low section of the housing, lower stud and bottom edge of the cover are scraped up.

cover has been off at one point as four of the lock washers were replaced with sealing flat washers. don't know what they used to glue the paper gasket on the cover, but it totalled a 3" roloc trying to get it off. were paper gaskets on the cover normal?

anyway, it's all cleaned up back there (at least the back of the rear axle is ;) ). a little rattle can to help stave off the rust. back to go do more cleaning and scraping and scrubbing.....

I didn't. i'll have to check on it later. was just planning on scrubbing up rear axle and bomb canning it, but thought the wetness might've been a lack of gasket. wasn't going to pull the cover until after we'd run it for a bit and i was ready to change fluid again.

moved onto the taillight from specter...it only has two wires, one is ground colored (white/black stripe), other is green. go to other side, two greens and ground (white/black). hook battery to light...white/black on specter light is brakes:rolleyes:

go to check other side to see which wire on harness should be brake light and find it doesn't work. thinking bulb might be bad, i discovered the ever popular permanent mount bulb base. glass came out, after much fuss, base came out. destroyed the contact section. trying to get it out to see if i can just put in a replacement contact deal.

also dealing with the only harness clusters i've found. one where the missing taillamp was and it's twin on the other side. not period correct, so don't look underneath, but going back together with weatherpack connectors

IIRC, paper gasket on diff side and cork on cover side. Is this one old enough to have a centered rear diff? Love watching this one...

yes, centered rear. and i know what "newer" rigs have. just wondering if the older stuff had soemthing else. and this paper is thinner than the diff gasket even.

I tried counting the teeth on your ring gear buy the photo, but can't. The size of that ring gear sure looks smaller than a 4.11, You might have on board overdrive?

didn't get to check the gearing yet, too clean to crawl underneath tonight, but did get the windshield vent seperated, still need to finalize the cut on the new rubber. jack is now blasted and ready for new grease, paint it on order. and, because i'm on a buffing mode, i cleaned the toolbox lid ;)

Driver side is the "period" wiper arm
Passenger side is the "newer" or replacement style that was offered until a couple years ago...

Very nice Land Cruiser Ingrid!

That's a great example that's its the little things in life that we should not take advantage of. The "Milk Truck" is my Anne that I get to escape to after the normal day of life.

Enjoying you build.

yes, the little things are helping...but dangit, i'm not known for patience, i wanna drive her! ;)

slow enough that i also media blasted the back side of the back piece for the windshield vent and weld thru primered it. 29 minutes to go home time!!!

Had to buy a whole carburetor to get a good float...New carb also has a solenoid and uses the metering rod plunger gizmo in the big-hole main jet.
Theoretically, I should have enough parts to make one working carb now.
Would still like to find the correct rebuild kit. Got two in the mail, they're both for the big-window...maybe somebody is trying to tell me something.

Did you happen to check out the gear ratio? 3 possibilities 4.11:1, 3.7:1, or 3.3:1
ratio should be 4.11. one spin of the tire garners a shade over two turns of the pinion flange

Hold on to the good brass floats, tough to find now adays :)

No kidding. Neither Napa nor Autozone had ANY in stock...
Did adjust the valves, cold obviously, to .25 and .35mm. Did notice that rotor points directly at the block at TDC #1, not in the general direction of sparkplug #4 as in later rigs. Also noticed that the punchmarks on the crankgear and the camgear line up at TDC#6...assuming this is normal.
Locking nuts on the valve adjusters were very tight, fixed that. Leaving them just a tad over fingertight till we get it warmed up and adjusted again.
Got the other bench seat out, I finally broke my first bolt...
