That's OK, it's a balmy 40 degrees in the driveway, in the sun, on a Pig tailgate, carb dip is not frozen...

ok, been a long time since update, but the wait for parts is ending...tonight was like christmas!

tonight, got the aftermarket oil pressure gauge installed. that was supposed to be done last night, but the crap nylon tubing that came with the gauge broke as i was feeding it through the firewall, so i upgraded to some eaton synflex.

new mirror too. took a little reaming on the arm to get it to fit. while doing that, i found they have broken off the bolt to move the arm in and out...that will have to be drilled out someday and fixed

earlier this week, the body shop guys from work brought me some crack...they matched her paint....woohooo! will just be painting stuff like cleaned up rust areas on jump seat bases so they can get new covers/foam and the windshield channel after i tack weld it back together (i got the new "gasket" made, just need to weld now).

also got some bling repro stickers to replace some of the missing ones.

Got the correct carb rebuild kit from Kurt, got that carb put back together and mounted. Amazing how well things go together when you have the right parts...

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

what a day! so much to report! she is running again...and as she should be!!!! oil dripping from the rocker assy, the carb feeding fuel! yessssssss!!!!!!!!

but let's start at the beginning.

while pighead rebuilt the carb, i worked on making the two gaskets i needed that were unobtanium...the pressure regulator and the thermostat gasket

also hooked up the new oil lines (uuuuummmmm....preeeettttttyyyyyy)

and got the front cover all set to go on, so pighead could hammer the damper home

just seeing this much assembly was enough to get us smiling

i ordered new later model tie rod ends and got new rods because the right hand tie rod end was severely bent and steering is kind of important ;)

they are a very close match. the tie rod will require newer year clamps as the tube is a larger diameter and the relay rod is a touch longer than the old one, but there were also a lot of threads showing on the old ends, so no cutting necessary.

Reminds me of the old VW carbs, straight forward and simple.

Funny, it takes about half the time to rebuild a one-barrel as it takes to rebuild a 2-barrel...

pighead pulled the plugs and cranked her over and the carb easily filled with fuel. we also got oil pressure on the new gauge...pighead installed the plugs and fired her up!!!!!!

valves have been adjusted for the final time, she's purring nicely. have to get a shorter belt and may possibly have to adjust the regulator as it's not charging, but generator is putting out. have to adjust the clutch and get brakes working....that's about it except for small stuff (like getting it to shift out of 4wd....the cable springs back.

anyways, pigheads smile says it all

valve cover with new gasket and rubbers (along with part numbers)

beginning of the end for the heater...the cluster of hardware store plumbing removed

a brake master cyl rebuild kit has all the parts to rebuild the clutch master...what's in the old master, and the kit contents...parts on the right won't be used. been a long time since she's been complete like this!

what was the reason it wasn't getting oil to the rockers?

what was the reason it wasn't getting oil to the rockers?

Time, probably. Just had to let it run a few minutes for the oil to start dripping out of the rockers.

Time and perhaps a little engine heat to help soften up old oil that may have coagulated in the line and rocker assembly?

Anyway, looking good. Congrats on all the progress.

Make sure to check your brake master cylinder reservoir before every time out, regardless of what may seem to be a non-leaking system.

You made good progress! Looks ready to drive. What is next on the todo list?

tonight, i'll blast the old clutch master, paint it and rebuild it for the shelf, blast the jack rods and paint them, then when i get home, i can finish hooking up the wiring at the left front junction block, plug the radiator down pipe where the heater piping was and start pulling the heater out.

we still need to adjust the clutch, i'm going to pull the rear shaft while we do that and get it cleaned, lubed, and painted and get the park brake drum adjusted.

adjust/fill/bleed brakes

adjust volt regulator so it will charge.

from there, it should be driveable. still projects like seat material, w/s vent gasket/some touchup stuff, etc

Man, you two are moving. It's neat to see how much gets done when you can double team a project.

Good Job!

Well, I think we are mostly just lucky...Annie is remarkably well preserved for her age. She disassembled easily, hardly broke any bolts, and none that were very important or hard to fix. Plus Ige is a bundle of energy and cracks a mean whip.
Heater is out, just 3 big bolts through the firewall, couple of sheet metal screws and it's gone. Found the trouble light plug behind it. New, smaller, fanbelt is on, new red positive battery cable is on, radiator downpipe got it's plug. Time for Pighead to make dinner. Ige can update more later.
