Light ring around key ignition - 1997 FzJ80 (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone!

Can someone refresh my memory…?

On a ‘97, does the green light up ring around the key ignition time out? After doing a bunch of work this weekend I’ve noticed mine stays on.

Worried that it might cause a parasitic drain.

Thoughts?

That's a common problem IIRC, something to do with a failing zener diode in the control box. I actually added the ignition ring light to my 80 as it wasn't included on the base models, but I just hard-wired mine to turn on when the doors are open rather than getting too fancy.

Noticed mine was staying on as well, so I just pulled the bulb. This is the first time I’ve thought about it in 2 years!

Yes, it is supposed to time out.

the ignition key cylinder light relay box in the passenger kick panel controls it
