@Beachcomber Bernie here is a thought, what about doing an AAL (to add some suspension) and having the stock springs rearched? This is basically what I just replaced my springs with and so far the rears seem great and gained me 2" over my original sagged height.

Just confirmed that SOR won't sell just the springs. You gotta buy the whole package with their shocks.

I'm gonna hold now to see how J's install works out.

@Beachcomber Bernie I ordered everything today.

Stock height made in the USA springs, shocks, spring bushings, U-bolts, steering dampner, greasable dog-bone shackles and greasable pins, new sway bar bushing kit. Parts plus shipping was $1132.00....................

Greetings
I have a stock everything 83, and just replaced the shocks with Monroes. I used the Sensa Trac load adjusting shocks in the rear and it rides incredibly sweet. Also leveled the rear, no sag.
I rode it on hunting/logging roads and 300miles towing my tent trailer back home.
I do have 31 AT BFGs...

Those shocks can break your upper mounts. The dinky, lame upper rear mounts were never designed to hold the weight of the back of the body.

Using load leveling shocks on a 60 is asking for it.

Just sayin...

Which kit is this J?

@gregnash,
Thought about AAL and re-arching also. Made me remember the day I bought Bernie from @whitey45. Truck was bottoming out really badly and he offered to toss in AAL in the deal. I said, "No thanks" and just went on my happy noob way.:doh:

@reevesci,
I called Dayton Parts in PA today. They make those stock springs you bought from Suspension King. Sounds promising and (we are all) really looking forward to hearing about the fit and ride.

@hank14,
Yeah, I'm stayin with the 235's and happy to see that there are others watching this thread wanting to do the same.

@jamesg,
Thanks for the lead on Atlas Springs. Glad to find a manuf. in the left state and I'll research them this week.

Anybody else out there have experience with Dayton or Atlas springs?
Or refreshing their springs to OEM profile?

A good few years back I had a '93 Toyota Pickup and I replaced the sagging stock springs with a set of Dayton springs. For whatever reason the springs I got weren't made correctly, even though they were the correct part # from them. I had to get back on the road and didn't have time to fool with it so I kept driving with it sagging a bit low.

Long story short....one day I was driving through PA and just randomly happened to drive past their manufacturing plant. So I stopped and knocked on their door and after a few minutes one of their engineers came down and shook my hand, looked at my truck, and apologized. They took my truck into their shop and swapped out the springs for free. Pretty neat.

That's my Dayton Spring story.

...and how's the ride @theron?
Did they hold up well?

Milner offroad in England sells aftermarket leafsprings that ride at stock height and mimic oem springs although a little stiffer.
They ship globally and are pretty affordable, at least compared to where I live.

I have the OME light duty deluxe kit. I bought it from Man-A-Fre back in 2009. When new, the ride was very bouncy - almost like the truck wanted to oscillate fore and aft when it had no load. It's settled down a bit with age, but I still find it a bit less compliant than ideal. Maybe it's over-damped and I could try different shocks, but I haven't bothered. With 31" tires, it was too much lift in my opinion. I now run 235-85-16's (equivalent to 32") and the height looks right. Rear passenger side is lower than driver - a common problem for poorly matched OME springs from what I can tell. I haven't dealt with it. I don't drive the truck a lot. I've put maybe 2K miles on it since 2009, a combo of highway, around town, NYC potholes, and farm/woods. No heavy off-road. I load the truck up pretty frequently (bunch of gear, kayaks, etc.) and the rear will sag with a heavy load, but rides fine. From the research I've done, I'd probably choose the medium duty springs for the rear and remove a leaf. Front light duties are plenty of spring with the stock bumper.

Valuable facts and story Bklnfj60.
Thanks!

Atlas Springs
Spoke with these folks located in CA. The spring 'table' on their web site is for reference only. It doesn't mean they offer our springs.
They don't have an OEM spec solution.

I spoke with Atlas a few years back and got the " yes, we can get any configuration you need for your truck...." Never heard another word from them... SEE YA!

So, my question............ Who, other than a handful at best, can say or try to remember what a true "OEM stock" ride felt like?...

IMO ride comfort is like buying a bed, couch or chair...... Even if someone can express the feeling from 25+ years ago... they/their bodies-senses have changed since then.. What I or @Output Shaft or @Beachcomber Bernie or ??? like can and might be 1000% different than someone else.

Then add in driving habits, constant road conditions and loads in vehicle.. Hell even air pressure in the tires... all makes for a +/- experience...

All in all at the end of the day..........The same company can make me a set of springs that I love and work perfect for me and for the next guy it is the worst set up they could ever imagine... I know this is an extreme rational, BUT it is the truth.

Any deviation within an equation will chain react and cause change to the end result to ANY mechanical and/or physical property.

Always keep this in mind.

Back to my JWB now............................

^ Great seats (to my butt) made the biggest difference in my ride enjoyment.

Well if your talking BMW seats they fall right in line with my above comment. I know you love the new BMW seats Tor acquired for you, but for me they are the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in. I sat in several different BMW, Ford, Dodge, PT Cruiser, Honda etc.. seats trying to find the right ones for me for my old cruiser build and none worked for me. I ended up with Volvo seats and to this day swear by them. It's all about the person and their physical requirements at the time of need.

BUT, I know on my next build an Accord or Jeep seat may work the best.
