I concur with Pappy an Toy4XFun, don't mess with SFA unless you really mean business; especially for a daily driver that see some fun on the side, IFS makes for a smoother ride on the road. Offroad, I would wager that most of the IFS haters out there are either serious posers, or serious crawlers.
As far as lifts go, there are all manner of fine options out there and they are very affordable. A high-end kit with new leaves for the rear, bushings, shackles, and ball-joint spacers for the front.
The early IFS system is pretty nice because you can get a decent lift out of it for very little money, and a little elbow grease. Crank the torsion bars, fix the offset with some spacers, and you can get a very nice setup for basically driveway time.
It's also worth mentioning that there is a differential drop option when dealing with IFS, where the differential assembly is lowered by a reinforcing structure. If the person using this lift knows what they're doing, and couples it with a good a-arm extension and other lift add-ons, it's useful; however, one made poorly is the equivalent to jamming a keel down between the tires, and inviting it to snag on rocks and dirt. Generally, these are advised against.
