Quick follow-up/re-cap...
Driving down the road and the CEL/4-lo light started flashing; found a P2714 Pressure Control Solenoid code. I changed the fluid three times (driving around the neighborhood in-between) and the code cleared on its own. There was never any driveability issues during all of this. About 2-weeks later, CEL again and rough shifting. Take it to a transmission shop and they find metal in the pan :( No rebuild parts available anywhere... no new transmission available. Because its disassembled in the shop, now everything is time-sensitive and I'm faced with two horrible options: a used $8k transmission or reassemble it as-is for the $1,500 diagnostic fee :vomit:
The shop was gracious enough to give me a couple of days to see if I could find anything better. I did find a $5k used transmission (albeit with more miles than the $8k). I had posted here looking for advice and @Acrad saved the day with a recommendation to OEM Vehicle Parts. Matt messaged with me all day on a Saturday and my shop had the transmission the next Thursday. The swap went well and I completed a 4-hour round trip in it yesterday > FLAWLESSLY

As an aside, the A/C had an error message so we took it directly from the transmission shop to an import specialist; pressure switch was replaced and A/C works again. They noted the front pads were low (rear had just been changed from a catastrophic failure right after we bought it) so new pads, rotors and calipers for the front as well.

All that's left now (that we're aware of) is LCA's.... We put tires on it right after we bought it and tried to get an alignment but were told the LCA bolts were seized and we needed TRE's. I'm going to have to recover from the $10k week in repairs but plan to change those myself this summer. AFTER THAT, I *NEED* this thing to go a million miles to get a return on this investment

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to let everyone know what happened and thank you guys for all the help!!

Ugh. My mechanic (of 20 years) just scanned my son's 2011 GX 460 and it's throwing P0761 and P2114. He said it needs to go to a transmission shop (ugh again). Just reviving this thread to see if anyone has seen these two codes. My searches (here and on the google) don't show much. Thanks in advance, fellas.

This is scary, sorry for the trouble ya'll are dealing with. Wonder if it was coincidence that swapping out fluid made these happen. Makes me want to just take it to a dealer to do the transmission fill and drain, so maybe they will pay for it if it takes a crap 2 weeks later.

Actually P0761 and P2714. Everything I've read indicates it needs a new transmission. Disappointing. I really think the "lifetime transmission" is questionable at best. I imagine if we flushed every 60K we wouldn't be seeing these issues.

And the worst part is there's one new one available/being built now and won't be ready until 12/29, and that quote is $8500. They sent a quote yesterday for a rebuild at $6,000. Even wrecked trans with 60K-80K miles on them are ~$5600. Amazing. And disappointing. I've owned 3 Lexus' and still have 2 of them and know they're overall bullet proof but when they break, it really hurts.

I'd definitely get it changed. I think it would lessen the odds. Now if it's super high mileage, it could cause a problem and I don't know how Lexus would react to helpiing you out.

100% correct. I had it flushed around 147k if I recall and while it wasn’t deathly dark it was a bit dark but with no metal shavings. So trust me I will be flushing every 50-60k. I never believe in this “lifetime” trans fluid bull****. Planned obsolescence is what it is.

@2000 LX 470 - sorry to hear your issues. As one just having replaced a GX460 transmission, it did hurt. As I have talked with others, it seems partial flushing (draining 2 quarts, refilling to the temp overflow) is the best method to prolong life. Complete draining/flushing seems to destroy them, I assume because of the metal getting moved around in the trans.

If I had it to do over again, I would have sourced parts or transmission BEFORE going to the repair shop but replacing the trans has given me a lot of peace. I KNOW I have hundreds of 1,000's of miles to go now.

Best of luck to you!!! Let us know how it all turns out....

Yeah, that's where I am. He's driving it while we find the best solution, so at least I don't have a gun to my head. Anyone know if using the manual shifting during this time would do anything to prolong the life? He's watched me use it on the GX and my GS430 so he's familiar using it properly.

Here is P2714 info

Mine only had around 55k miles when I did 4-5 drain and fills. No flush. Put another 20K miles on it since then.. I will probably do another drain and fill next summer and then when I hit 100k miles drop the pan and replace the filter.

I'm at 76k miles on my '12.

So, I had the same issue. Tried to do the end plug fix tonight. Everything was going well until I went to put the valve body back together and noticed these two random squares sitting in the table. No idea where they go and obviously don’t want to put it back in with them out. Anybody have any actual experience with valve bodies?

I wish I was smart enough to answer. Looks like spacers o some sort.... Did you figure it out?

Hello everyone, I purchased a 2010 gx460 premium about 7 months ago, 4 months ago I replaced the transmission fluid and filter with WS fluid ( no flush ) (130k miles ) about a week ago the suv started acting up specially in the morning, throwing codes like P0761 P2714 C1201, and not shifting from 3 gear to 4 gear. It only does this if I don’t let the car warm up before driving. If I let the car warm up the transmission throws no codes and shifts like butter. Can anyone please help me find the issue ? Do I need a new transmission?

Yeah, I finally found a diagram online and found where they go. Also, the original problem was not fixed, and I ended up getting a full trans replacement. It sucked, but I'm also not sure one data point is enough to disqualify the end-plug fix as a solution.

@mcvejano - Not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt... if it were me, I'd drain some fluid and see what it looks like. Is it burnt? Any metal?? My guess is this is not going to get better and you're going to need internal parts or an entire replacement to solve.

It will only cost you a couple quarts of fluid to see what you're dealing with

I also have a 2010 Lexus GX460 with some modifications. The car spent its entire life of a tiny island (Guam max speed limit 35mph) and I shipped to Alaska to drive down to Panama. Made the trip, BUT….

-early on ran into 4LO, check engine and traction control warnings and car would not shift past 4th gear.

-warming the car was a must, as well as installing a Bluetooth computer to clear all warnings before car would shift into higher gears and run normally.

-no mechanic could fix or tell me an answer. Closest I got was a guy in El Paso told me the tires (33in) were too big and it was confusing the computer based on set/required output to reach desired speed. This triggered a protection mode saying solenoid C and D were bad.

-the problem is getting worse and I’m starting to smell burning from the engine on longer trips.

-I am more than happy to replace solenoids, but don’t want to pay $500-1000 if that’s not the problem.

-I also wanted to see if you pursued a fix for your issue? And how that went?

-I read the below reply and it’s extremely detailed and informative, but not sure if my situation is the same?

-OBD 2 (II) says I’m experiencing these two main codes:

I have a buddy with a lifted 470 that is experiencing the same thing (the only other lifted GX owner I know) so I would love whatever feedback anyone has.

From everything I've read, this is a design flaw with the transmissions and is not related to any relatively minor modifications (e.g. 33" tires). I've followed the issue fairly closely since I just had to deal with it (see previous comments), and the issue has not been definitively diagnosed. I know this doesn't help much, but I'd prepare for the worst-case scenario - full trans replacement.

Thanks so much. I replaced transmission fluid mid-trip (7K mikes after problem and it had minor discoloration (normal for miles) and no metal??? This was 6 months ago now, so I could be looking at new damages from clearing codes for so long?
