I'm in the process of installing some component speakers that I've been sitting on for 10 years.

Yes there are literally hundreds of threads on stereo upgrades and speaker installs, but I'm undecided on where to put the crossovers as my driver's side kick panel is full (JDM) of relays and gak.

I was thinking of:
  • Under the tranny shift plastic cover (over the hump)
  • In the doors (mounted to...?)
  • Go cheesy and just plunk them in the map pocket
I don't have the time to go fishing wires back and forth across the underside of the dash or to the back, so looking for ideas (with pics).

Also curious where/how to attach the tweeters (on door, on dash? Mounted to...?)

Anyways, any ideas are helpful.
Thanks all.

Thought I had a better picture, but Focal 6.5's in the bottom of the door and tweeter in the top of the door.

This may be stating the obvious, but fishing wires pretty much anywhere in the interior is easier than running additional wires into the doors...which you will have to do if the crossovers are mounted anywhere but in the door. I'm speaking from recent experience, as I just ran new speaker wires into the front doors last week. (Not for components in my case - I was troubleshooting an issue with my head unit cutting out, and bypassing the factory speaker wires was my last ditch effort....and the solution)

I ended disconnecting the harness from the doors inside each of the kick panels and pulling the whole harness back into the door. This gave me enough slack and room to re-wrap the oem wiring with my new wires added. It was a pain, but you can't tell I added anything.

On a related note, I'm probably going to move the Rockford Fosgate 6.5 coaxials from my front doors to the rears, and put a set of the RF components in the fronts. In my case it will be simple, since the components I'm going to use don't have an external crossover to mount.
