lets make a tool list.

I had this idea this morning, it might actually be a good one. Why don't we all work up a tool list for the 80!

I see so many post about people just starting to learn to wrench on there "new to them " 80's and I myself over the last couple of months have just started to collect tools that a really extensive list would be great to have in the FAQ.

the stuff I have collected so far :

152 mechanic driver set (Craftsman)
10 pc small to large screwdrivers (Snap on)
150 ftlb tourqe wrench (Powerbuilt)
18v cordless drill (De Walt) - Drill bit set
Sawz all (De Walt)
Dremel set
Mulity meter
Pickel fork set

I just getting started and most of the tools I get used from the local pawn shops. If we had a really extensive list I know it would help me and probably quite a few others.

I'm still looking for a good floor jack and stands.

This is great, I've been meaning to ask this same question about what specific tools I should start acquiring.

PHH tool kit: Linoleum knife with curved blade, bent nose needle nose pliers, needle nose vice grips.

Other:
-4 12mm sockets (because you always need 2 at the same time, can't find the other 2)
-Breaker bars in all sizes
-Metric ratcheting box wrenches (at a minimum 10mm, 11mm, and 12mm)
-Spring flex ratchet extensions
-Head lamp LED flashlight
-A garage

3 feet of 3/8 socket extensions for various jobs. (coolant drain from block, intake plenium removal, etc)

I think 75% of the work on this truck could be done with these sockets (10, 12, 12 deep, 14, 14 deep, 17, 22, 24)

Of the less common things I've found useful:

Disposible Latex gloves - do a much cleaner job
trim removal tool - put it back with ALL the clips
6 point socket set
old fashioned "X" style lug wrench - spins them really fast when you get good at it.
battery terminal crimper
heat gun

Unless you're just including this as a multifunction prybar, I'd recommend getting a real tie-rod end puller, or barrowing one from Autozone on the occasion you need to pop a TRE.

cool guys keep them coming I Will compile this into a master list after more people start to chime in with suggestions.

Old tie rod as a breaker bar...about 4 feet worth of metal to get some good torque on a bolt. I have one of these in my truck (the Slee one...) and it works great--especially on the crank case bolt as well as other high torque bolts.

Hmmm....brass hammer. Good addition.

Uh....x1 million on the BFH...basically fixes everything a screwdriver doesn't...
