knuckleup (one of the sponsors of that fight night) is my gym :)

I've sparred several times with amateur fighters and it is never too fun. I only came out the better once when I accidentally dislocated a guys shoulder - felt horrible after that b/c he missed an upcoming fight.

someone is WAAAAY to excited :)

Well, I just got home...tomorrow, 12:30, Gwinett County KnuckleUp Jiu Jitsu...game on. Will post up once it is over.

I hope I don't break Steve :)

Well, Steve is at my house and we're feeding him a big breakfast to get his strength up. He's got a whole case of juiceboxes for energy. It's gonna be a hoot!

I've got $20 on Steve breaking Dan like a twig.

You bet on Steve? Ha!

hahahaha, I am on my way over

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith - 2 Timothy 4:7

ETA: It was a good fight. Dan definately has a weight advantage. We quit when we became afraid of puking on each other. I give Dan the win this time. We rolled no-gi which means shorts and some sort of shirt w/o a typical jiu-jitsu gi. We already have a rematch planned w/ gi...stay tuned.

Heather and Taylor took some good pics. We will post soon.

Given we both quit in the end and I only had Steve tap once I think it is more important that the gi match be scheduled as the deciding event. Steve had me in a rather precarious triangle hold (pics will show) which could have made it even.

Good times, and the place we rolled at was awesome and very helpful with instruction, etc. It is worth noting every person in the class with the exception of the very new folks could roll extremely well...not a lightweight place to hang out.

Oh, and I was tapped twice in less than 2 minutes by a gigantic dude named Eduardo who was extremely skilled in jiu jitsu. I watched him dominate several rounds and then got my turn...and got destroyed. He was helpful though and showed me a few tricks big guys can do.

Thanks for showing Steve. Good times. Maybe next time we can try to not get so close to vomitting and keep on trucking!

Oh, I will also preface the posting of the pictures with this comment:

Anyone who cracks on the pictures must show up to roll with Steve or I at some point to get the experience of how hard this martial art is. The pictures do it no justice and it is extremely difficult and strenuous.

So, that said, make all the fun you want, but be ready to rumble!!

So, here they are....long overdue....

*theme from Rocky plays here*

I'll let Dan and Steve tell y'all what is going on here. Well, besides sweaty mens rolling around together.

Here is my play by play...

Pic 1: I got a cramp in my hammy :)

Pic 2: Squaring off

Pic 3: Starting the battle
IMG_1600.jpg

Pic 4: This just normal grappling, trying to get position and break something
IMG_1607.jpg

Pic 5: Same, grappling, trying to get out...Steve has guard position here and it is 50/50 aside from my weight advantage.
IMG_1610.jpg

Pic 6: Same, starting to get to the side with my knee on his chest (that hurts)
IMG_1612.jpg

Pic 7: Pretty sure this photo led to Steve tapping out shortly after...I think I got past his legs and ended up in a really sloppy choke hold on his neck and just squeezed him till he gave up....then we reset...next photo...
IMG_1613.jpg

Pic 8: This is Steve with me in trouble. If Steve had his torso to the left I probably would have been choked out. This is called the triangle choke and it is not good to be in.
IMG_1617.jpg

Pic 9: Here I am trying to get out of the triangle...this could have turned even worse for me if Steve had spun his hips right and trapped my arm backwards between his legs and my chest on the ground...called a umo plata...could easily break and arm or dislocate a shoulder....but he didn't and I ended up hitting him in the stomach and he quit so as to not puke :).

Like I said, make all the fun ya want, but these photos were taken at the end of class. Steve and I went through the full workout for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class full of pretty experienced folks. We did almost a full hour of running, biometrics, and drills on how to sweep someone from different stances. We also sparred (rolled) with 3 or 4 other people with a LOT more experience than us before we decided to do the photo op. That was probably a mistake. I know I was pretty much exhausted before we started.

If anyone wants to get into shape fast, this is a great way to do it. You get VERY strong, increase your cardio and endurance, and you get to learn how to break people's limbs and choke them until they pass out. Very handy! :)
