And here is my play by play...
Pic 1: Dan says "I'm old - I got a cramp!"
Pic 2: Playing Patty Cake.
Pic 3: For some reason Dan kept wanting to hold hands. "But Dan - I'm not like that!"
Pic 4: I knew I would have a hard time getting top position

on Dan so I pulled guard. I'm working a 'high guard' which is where my legs are high on Dan's shoulders which isolates his upper body and puts him in a bad position. Note my left foot up by his ear. Note to self - Dan is just a little bigger than I am and it is a B*&%*h to have him putting all his weight on my shoulders. Dan is also much wider in the shoulders than guys my own size so I have a hard time keeping him wrapped up. Dan is stacking me which is where all his weigt (and most of mine) is transferred onto my shoulders. This won't make me submit but it is uncomfortable and tiring for me.
Pic 5: Neutral position, I'm pushing Dan's right arm across his body to start working the triangle. Dan's so much stronger that I had tried moves like this about half a dozen times already and he just powers out of them. Now that gets frustrating.
Pic 6: Dan was working a 'knee on chest' but I have his leg hooked and wanted to work an arm bar but his right arm was WAY too far away (and I had him in the deadly 'toe in shirt armpit' hold here.)
Pic 7: I think Dan did get a submission soon after this. He had an arm and neck choke. I could have held out a little more but I was scared of puking on myself. Score 1 for Dan.
Pic 8: This position is what I was working for in Pic 5...but here we had reset. I have Dan's left arm across his face (which I am using to try and choke him with.) As Dan said this is called a Triangle Choke.
Pic 9: Here I am reaching up to pull my left leg down and hook my right leg over it. Dan's left arm is across his face (bad for him) but my hips need to be on the other side of Dan's body so from here I can't really finish off the choke (bad for me). From this position I can hold Dan for a long time but in a match, depending on the ref, I could get points for a submission attempt or I could get called for stalling...all depends. After this pic I either lost the hold or let go (can't remember) and rolled into an Omoplata but was too tired to finish it.
It was a fun time and we definitely have a rematch scheduled - gi this time instead of no-gi. There is a big difference between the two. Dan called it a draw but I would call it a split decision for Dan. I haven't rolled in a few months due to injury and this was my first time back and it is amazing how much you lose in a few months. Dan is a biggun and I need to hit the weights a bit before the rematch!
Oh - and we were not striking during the match. If we had been I would not have 'pulled guard' so fast as it is much harder to strike from the bottom and I don't want Dan punching me from the top. If I had ended up on the bottom and we were striking I would have worked harder to control Dan's wrists to slow the punches. Its much harder to work submissions from the bottom when the guy on top is punching you in the face.
