let me see how your shoulder retractable seat belts are mounted on roll cage (3 Viewers)

I have 4 point belts in my 40 and they are a little too big for my 6 year old so I need to also install normal retractable 3 point shoulder belts to work with a booster seat. I take my top off so I can't use the factory location on the hardtop and those don't seem overly secure. I will need to use my roll cage. My options are to drill through the cage and use a grade 8 bolt to hold them in. Drill a hole and weld in a nut to bolt into, or make some type of bracket welded outside of the cage to bolt into.

I would like to see a few different ways that I can do this to see how I will do mine. Kinda measure twice do once (see a few different, do one time).

Retractable shoulder belt

drilled a hole on the inside of the roll bar, welded a nut over the hole, and bolted in the ccot seat belt. works like a charm! just be sure to paint over everything after you weld...

My 4x4 labs cage has a short piece of 1/4" wall tubing with an ID that is big enough for the attachemnt bolt. Probably could find something like it at a fab or speed shop

Actually, I looked again at the ones I posted up and they're designed to mount the retractable portion of the belt to the cage......so down at the bottom of the tube near the wheel well. So, you might need a pair of these for the bottom and a pair of the light tabs from Mark at the top......

I had a CJ that had the seatbelt like this. Thanks for the pic. It may be my best choice.

My only concern about drilling a hole in the tube itself is weakening it at that point. But, honestly, I don't know metal well enough to know if that is a real concern or not.

Here is how I did mine. I welded an "L" bracket to the roll bar and used another one bolted to the base of the roll bar. Works just fine. These are the CCOT seat belts. The "L" bracket that bolts the retractor to the base of the roll bar is also from CCOT.

i used 3/8s heavy duty muffler clamps to hold mine .have done this on several trucks and one was airborne and rollover tested no breaks no injuries.

I used the cruiser solutions brackets and welded them to my metal tech family cage. No fabrication needed and they have the nut welded in that fits the OEM bolt. Simple solution and relatively inexpensive if you are not looking to do too much fabrication. Plus the belt fits lower on the shoulder than where it fits into the hard top. If you put the hard top back on you don't have to worry about moving the seat belt and it fits more snug.

Metal Tech sells brackets for this purpose, they will need to be welded on the cage. not recommended to drill through cage. One hell of a weak point!

Hey....this four point allows the operator to lean far forward enough to pick up an item off the floor, as it is retractable and fully adjustable, should work for you child, they are mocked up in my 40 now, let me know if you need pics of retracted and extended, no problem. This is the link to the harness, well worth the $$, fully adjustable and very comfortable.

I'd like to see some pics please.
Did you anchor them to the top portion of the roll bar, or the uprights?
I will be using a "bolt-in" roll bar for DD (bolt in so that it can be safe to drive with the family, but yet easily removable so to not ruin the true restoration) and I want to run 3 of these 4-point belts up front...one for each passenger...and the only way to do so is to weld a tab, or bracket on the aft side of the top roll bar to give both a better angle on the belt over the shoulders, and to keep any protruding brackets safely away from our heads.

Any thoughts?

Heres those pics i told you about, soory for delay. In the last pic with the seat tilted forward, you can see the button that releases the belt from seat to allow rear passengers to enter. Great set-up for the $$. I strongly advise against drilling/tapping your existing bar as wall thickness is at a minimum and definetly do not suggest a muffler clamp. To wheel at 5mph and snag a tree is one thing, but we still have to travel on the highway at 65mph to get there, do you want a muffler clamp in that situation??

Thanks for pics. Problem with dual shoulder straps for a 6 year old is they are too wide for his shoulders and he slide through them unless I use some type of carabiner to hold them together at his chest. Even with a booster seat with shoulder guides, the wider dual straps don't work very well.
