I just did this mod. for my 62, Super easy. I can't believe how dark the stock lights were. Thanks guys

For the side markers I am gong to use the "M1 Series LED Marker Lamp" from superbrightleds.com. It replaces the existing side marker assembly, and Ive seen it installed in a thread at some point in time. just my $.02

In the middle of having fun with this......ran into a snag though.

Has anybody had trouble with the 3022-xHP2 for the heater controls? All i can get out of this festoon in that socket is a slight flicker when I turn the lights on. The stock bulb works great. I ran jumpers from the festoon socket and hooked them to an old TaskLED I had and it shines just fine. I hooked up the 3022-xHP2 to a 110 to 12v converter and it shines just fine........but, again, only flickers in the festoon socket.

Has anyone changed out the light in the 62 shifter? I'm about ready to take it apart and see what size, thought I'd ask before doing it.

So I to want to replace all the bulbs in my truck with LED's. I have been through this thread and I think I have pieced it together. My brain works a certain way so I put a table together that I think can help. It is for a FJ60 as I got some of the info from my 1987 Owners Manual. I have also included the blinkers as I will be changing those to.

Sl33py, perhaps you can take a look and see if I got anything wrong.

If anyone sees any holes please let me know and I will fill them in to get this thing 100% for others that follow.

I've been away for a while... nice work on the table!

Couple suggestions -

dash gauges i recommend the brightest you can reasonably afford. Remember not to put in bright LEDs to any non-dimable or constant on spots (4wd!, blinkers, choke, etc.). Too bright at night and since you cant dim them it can be blinding.

IIRC all the dash bulbs i replaced were 194's like the side markers - except i got the HP bulbs for those and the wide angle (and lower profile) for the side markers. I saw some new HP low profile and 360 degree coverage HP bulbs i probably will get for my side markers as an upgrade.

I'm probably repeating myself, but i DO NOT recommend LEDs for the blinkers. They blink too fast unless you get a different flasher, or put in resistors (resistors = a heatsink and heat). I like the fact that if a bulb does burn out i know it when a blinker starts blinking faster. Easy to spot and typically a quick fix.

I'm diving back into my 84 FJ60 again soon so hopefully will update as i mess w/ more LEDs.

Thanks guys!

Hey Zero - i had the same issue w/ mine. Figured out that it had to be turned "just so" for it to stay on. I keep meaning to clean all the contacts as it seems like a bad connection on mine.

HTH!

Elbert's Side Marker thread reminded me i wanted to post up more updated info on the side marker LED's now available in High Output or the HP generation of LEDs.
Yeah, when it comes to LED's i'm pretty much a geek... (i'm a geek the rest of the time too)

Superbrightleds.com is great. Good prices (i've seen cheaper), and they typically ship fast/cheap.

I'm looking at possibly upgrading some of my original side marker LED's now that the newer generation of HP bulbs are made for this. (with 360 degree coverage).

Here's the one's i'm looking at possibly using (set of amber and red obviously):

Comparing with the wide coverage one i use currently:

And the new High output ones i'd like to grab:
wled-whp6.jpg

Those are my recommendation when getting any new (SOR or Toyota) side markers - especially as heat seems to be the biggest culprit of killing them (brittle).

HTH - GL!

Can somebody with a 62 post a complete list of everything needed?

I think I have this:
WLED-xHP (4 needed - instruments)
WLED/x-x (6 needed - turn signals, 4x4, check engine, brake, battery)
74-x (2 needed - brake/battery)
WLED xHP6 (4 needed sidemarkers)
WLED-WHP9-T (2 needed - front corners)
3022 xHP2 (dome)
3710 xHP3 (or xHP6) (cargo)

I think I'm missing a lot more. Can somebody with a 62 help me update this list?

thx

Robert

Be sure to get the appropriate color LEDs for the right color light (ex: the two white bulbs in the shifter housing are behind red lenses, so be sure to get red LEDs for replacing those, amber for the defrost switch, etc.). Trust me on this. The results are MUCH better that way.

Also, for this piece:

don't get one of the WLED-xLX units. I still have to replace the one I installed because the beam pattern is so narrow it's as if there's nothing there. I'd recommend trying the WLED-xHP5 in there and see how that does. It's got a 360-degree beam, so it should work better than the one I have in (WLED-RLX, which is also what I use in my gauges).

Ok. Here is what I have based on my photos above and what I can tell now that it's disassembled. Per Spook's comments, I've adjusted the shifter lights and rear defrost light. Can others confirm what colors are already there (i.e., anything with a lens (as opposed to a bulb w/ a sleeve) needs to be the same color).

Link broken and replaced w/ new chart in post below.

Ok updated my chart with what I think I need for the FJ62. Those of you who have swapped bulbs, please look this over and let me know if I'm wrong or missing anything. I'll be ordering Monday afternoon.

(fyi bulb color includes bulbs w/ sleeves but not those w/ plastic screens)

Somebody please let me know what color the H4 switch is when lit.

Also, if some body knows how to replace the seatbelt light (below the tach in the pics above) please let me know. It doesn't pull out (like a wedge) nor seems like a screw in. so I don't know how to replace it or what to replace it with.

Guys,

Please help. Look up a few posts and see the one where I have a pic of the rear defrost switch (orange circle). The bulb on the back (white base) is a VERY odd shape. IN my order, I ordered several of the twist locks in all 3 sizes (NEO3 NEO4 NEO5). I thought that the Neo3 would be the right size, but nope. It's too small. The diameter of the base is actually between the Neo 3 and 4. But the base is thicker. THus the threading is way different. Nothing I can find on the superbrightled.com website matches. What are ya'll doing for this switch?

I just put in an order for my 62 going off your list. Except I have taskleds for my dome and cargo light.

Right now my whole dash and shifter are dark, so if I have to get in there to t-shoot it I may as well upgrade too.

Rob, the red LEDs look great! But how do you dim them? I have a 1983 24V HJ60, and there's no dimmer on my dash. And I'm not much of an electrician, so... But my dashboard lights suck!

Wim

Yeah, get that. Well, I don't assume they built it somewhere under the hood, so no, I don't think so:)
