LED Dome lights, Where Are You?

I've got all my interior lights as leds, got them all on ebay, just found ones that fit, and ordered what looked right. Both doom lights, my map reader lights, and all the dash light and gauge lights. Most of them are pretty standard globes.

I pulled all globes out, and figured out what number of what types I needed, measured the feston ones, there are a few different length option.

Right now I'm missing the diffuser lens in the dome light and when I tried to remove the cargo light it disintegrated.

Dome light suggestion

Right now I'm missing the diffuser lens in the dome light and when I tried to remove the cargo light it disintegrated.

Might want to consider getting a dome light out of a camry/corolla/4runner. Was just at the yard this afternoon, and most 80-90's that I saw had a varient of the light that looked darn similar to the LC one. Only problem I found is the LC light assembly is a little longer on where the connector is than the others - I'm going to have to make a couple of 1" male to female extenders using spade ends to clip to the light and the connector plug - but I have a light thats at least 15 years newer, and doesn't have a rotten diffuser.

YMMV,

I picked up a new dome light cover from the dealer a few months ago. PN 8124120060. I think it was $5.

Hey Glenn,
will this work for the rear cargo area?

I picked up a new dome light cover from the dealer a few months ago. PN 8124120060. I think it was $5.

Thanks!

Rear cargo light

Hey Glenn,
will this work for the rear cargo area?

Thanks!

Don't think so, since the rear one is so much smaller than the front. I just finished putting the front one in, and it works great. Came out of a 98 camry. Had to get some small (18-22g) male and female spade connectors and a small bit of wire.

I would have to look at the mount on the rear, but I don't think its going to mount up correctly. Will check in the morning.

Here is what I put in. It's a 12 LED bulb replacement. Bright as hell! I put on in the rear done as well. Got them off of Amazon for around 3.50 each shipped.

I have four more 60 front dome lenses for sale. OEM Toyota part new old stock. When I found them (Kansas City) I bought all the guy had.
$18 shipped ConUS.

Not sure if you're all after some actual light output but I ordered the kind above from superbrightLEDs which comes in the exact shape and size as the dome light's original, however it was too dim. I ended up spending a bit more on an Autozone bought LED board that was just large enough to fit into the dome light housing. I basically crammed it into the space, and it just covered up neatly. The board has a small wire you can shorten, with various adapter plugs to fit into the actual bulb socket. It was much MUCH better and brighter than the supposed LED replacement I bought online.

Mind you this was for my Altima, not an LC, but I imagine you can easily find the right size depending on your local store.

+1 for superbrightleds.com. This for the front.

Natural white looks a little better than cool white. IIRC, the rear bulb is wider than the front, so measure your current bulbs to be sure. I recall the option of using a 6-pot for the back, but the front will only take a 4-pot (still WAY brighter than incandescent).

Note that the festoon SMED bulb does not fit well into the rear fixture. The circuit board is not parallel to the lens, and at an angle, it bumps into the bulb holder and will not let you position it so it shines down into the cargo area. You have to VERY CAREFULLY bend the entire fixture downward, being careful not to snap it in half. Ask me how I know this.

with minimal work you can fit the larger 6 HP LED up front (what i have in the rear). TIGHT, but will fit if you are careful. The additional output is nice!!!

I haven't updated anything in forever... but check my LED's link below. It should have details and pics if they haven't changed and died... Not going to fix it now, but hopefully a quick update that helps:

I used a similar one to this in the rear. At the time i remember having to drill two holes in the springs for it to mount and rotate it a bit to fit, but A HUGE IMPROVEMENT over stock. Lights up the entire rear cargo area. I don't recall it having the capacitors on the back though... so this newer version may be a bit tougher to fit. Also note the blue/white vs warm white output is significantly different (90 lumens blue/white vs 60 lumens warm white - just FYI)

In the front i used the smaller 4 HP Super77 mentions/shows.

might also be worth trying one of the small remote wired festoons w/ remote LED panel like this:

compared to even the HPx6 37mm festoon it's 165 lumens! some velcro on the back... as long as it fits in hte lens and you are golden!

Hi all
Anyone know if this will work in a 24V HJ? I can't see the voltage on the site:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005K9LP9G/ref=nosim/ihco-20

This however looks like it will handle up to 30V:
http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/festoon/de3175-led-bulb-4-smd-led-festoon/238/

I replaced my cargo area light and forgot to check the bulb inside was 24V... man that 12V bulb burned bright for a few days while camping (until it burnt out). Makes me really excited for a bright LED.

if you don't see the specs - i'd assume it won't. Nice part of superbrightleds is they give you the full specs. dimensions, voltage range, lumens, etc.

I'd pay the extra and get one you know will work! and 4 HP LED's vs 1 should be a LOT brighter! (without burning out)

GL!
