I have a steady leak from the back of the t-case at the parking brake of my 73 FJ40. Over the winter I pulled the t-case, replaced the seals and gaskets. After a few months of seeing gear oil leaking from the parking brake drum, I pulled the drum, the seal appears and feels fine; the surface of the parking brake drum shaft that the seal seals against does have some wear (see second pic)where the seal rides against it, easily noticeable to the touch, feels & looks to be roughly .015". I'll replace the seal just in case. Could the wear on the parking brake drum "shaft" allow a consistant flow of oil to leak past the seal?

Can you catch your finger nail on those marks?

If so, install a wear sleeve, part number 99177, or CR99177.

You should drain the transfer case of oil so that it will stop running out of the rear seal housing area.

I can't catch a finger nail on the wear marks but can definitely feel them; I'l check out the wear sleeve. Thanks for the help

Yep, Speedi-sleeve. 99177 from NAPA.

Thanks everyone for the links and part numbers, these are a big help. Looks like I'll be spending some quality time with the T-case.

It shows up on Napaonline, for $43 or so.

Also, Rock auto and Amazon have it as well, for less than $30

Anyone actually have luck with the speedi sleeve?

I just used one on my ebreak of my 1975 fj40. Still leaks.

This is on my new Orion I installed.

What are my other options?

very annoyed....
