Kind of curious how this is "legally" here in the states?!

That's right by me if anyone wants me to check it out for them. Haven't seen it on the road around here yet though...

I don't normally reply on ads like this because I am always amazed at what can be legally brought into the US (speaking from experience) and as someone who has a legal 1997 HZJ75 Troopy in California.

I would say I am sure this would be fine for many states, the only thing that seems strange is the story that it went SF to have US emmisions done, first California does not even do emmisions on Diesel, and is just starting this year with 1998 and new models so what was actually done in SF would surprise me.

I think in California you would have trouble getting it titled, other states not so much.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,

Michael

I talked to the guy and he's pretty straight forward. The title does not specify fuel type (apparently a texas thing). The much bigger problem is that it does not have a 17 digit vin, but a 12 digit one. It is registered as a 95 though.
With that it'll raise flags at least in CA while registering, as they will want to assign a new vin and the sacramento DMV-nazis will get their hands on it.
Too bad, I wanted that thing.
cheers,
J

please tell me how this is legal, I would like to know. Nice machine.

the way I see it is that who ever owns this is running the risk of loosing it to the Gov if Customs/EPA/DOT ever get wind of this being here, I think? Would be nice to have though.

Ok, now I have to step in here, please stop with the myth's and speculation. there was only one incident of this every happening and it was up in Calgary Canada.

Look I am sure this is perfectly legal in Texas, that is why it is there and has a title and plates on it, the state has the right to ultimately decide if a vehicle is legal or not and yes the states will vary from each other.

But I really serioulsy doubt that the illegal vehicle police are driving around the states looking and claiming illegal vehicles and siezing them, despite the owner having valid registration and title for it...Really come on lets leave the story telling to kids.

Just saying buyer beware. If it ever came down to State vs. Gov I think that Gov would win.

Seat configuration

Anybody know the seat configuration in the rear? 11 people??

farman33, I was going to post that too. I have seen several cars/trucks listed from this same individual. They all have similar stories. I am not saying he is not legit, it just seems very odd to me.
